Re: All Cheerleaders Die

Watchable enough, but a disappointment from Lucky McKee after May and The Woman, which is one of my favourite horror films of the last ten years. It was like The Craft meets Jennifer's Body and felt like a deliberate attempt to make something more commercial but the film wasn't too far from the type...

Re: The Den

I saw this a while ago and I agree that its very good and quite spooky. Should have been on the Main screens rather than the Discovery screen.

Re: Saturday

I used to do the whole Frightfest in the Prince Charles days, but now I only go for one day. This year I picked Saturday because of the highly praised The Babadook and because of Sin City 2 which was then moved to Thursday (Frightfest, please lock down your schedule before you sell day passes) and o...

Re: Starry Eyes

I can see why this would score with the gore-hounds, but I thought it was a good idea which was squandered. There was ample opportunity for a Hollywood horror satire about ambition but after an intriguing first act, the film becomes dramatically inert. Like the similarly monotonous Contracted for mu...

Re: Life after Beth

There were some great gags, especially the already mentioned "hiking" scene with Aubrey Plaza strapped to a cooker, but it felt like they filmed an early draft of a screenplay which could have done with another re-write to make everything hang together better. In the second half the film l...

Re: The Babadook

I thought this was a little disappointing after all the great write-ups this has been getting and admittedly I can't quite put my finger of why I didn't love this when a lot about the film was very good. I suppose the fact that I too didn't find this scary at all didn't help and it does get a little...

Re: The Harvest

I thought the plot was decent enough and the child actors were good, but the film itself was shot like a TV movie with a score which would have been more at home in a romantic comedy (I checked out the composer on IMDB, he mostly scores comedies). The bland visual look didn't work in favour of the f...

Re: VHS 2 - do I or don't I?

I've seen it and thought it was far better than the first one and two episodes are minor classics IMO. However as it's going to be available on itunes etc and has basically already been released, it wouldn't be my first choice.

Re: Frightfest 2013 Ticket Information

I bought a day pass for the opening night, but was also hoping that individual tickets would be on sale by now, as it said they would be on the Frighfest site. Will be in town later this afternoon and if they haven't gone up online by then, I'll pop by the Empire to find out. As to food, the fast fo...
