Re: Crawl

It was fine but felt a bit of a safer film than the full blown craziness of Piranha. The dialogue was a bit twee and I couldn't quite buy the homicidal maniac behaviour of the alligators!

Re: Come to Daddy

Best opening film for some years. Superb performances, a wonderfully dark story and some big laughs too.

Re: Halloween 2018

Saw it this weekend. Pretty average slasher weighed down by some pretty dumb plotting I thought. Bit disappointed.

Re: The Most Assassinated Woman in the World

Noticed that this is now available on Netflix

This was held back at the request of the director and writers so it could be shown at FrightFest

Re: Victor Crowley

Great kills, same hit and miss comedy business as the other hatchet sequels.

Re: Game of Death

5 minutes in and hating all the characters I wasn't too enthused but once the first head exploded I was won over! One of the best of the fest!

Mansfield 66/67

Documentary about Jayne Mansfield and her dabble with the occult. A combination of two interesting subjects, the squeaky Hollywood starlet and the late 60s obsession with devil worshippers it was an entertaining 90 minutes. Anything with John Waters cannot fail in my book and I'd have much rather ha...

Re: 3rd Night

Did well on a micro budget and there's something about the outback that cooks up these crazy characters. What the hell was that bathtub scene about?? Q&a was livened up by someone proffering criticism of the films final shot. He didn't get a t shirt!

Re: Dead Shack

Good film for a late night slot. Not too demanding and with enough humour and suspense to get by.

Re: Leatherface

So this is where the franchise resides now? A not very difficult game of guess the Leatherface? Best moment by far was the almost incidental wheelchair out the window. Otherwise overwhelmingly humdrum.

Re: 68 Kill

I'm clearly in something of a minority here in feeling a bit underwhelmed about this one. I think maybe I want a bit more horror from the festival and a lot of films on show like this one didn't really sit in that genre. Maybe also the viewing experience was dampened by just being in the generally h...

I'd have liked them to have had a bit more fun with the premise; the lift scene being an example. Instead it all got a bit po faced

Re: Sequence Break

Didn't have any social commentary to go with the videodrome plotting and ended up a bit of a mess in more ways than one. I also spot a bit of a pattern emerging as the nerdy central characters in beyond the gates also had girlfriends who were well above their batting average. Come on mate, have a wo...

It Stains the Sand Red

Good starter for Saturday with a big crowd stuffed into the small screen at the pcc. Inventively squeezed a good deal of pathos and tension from what could have been a rather repetitive scenario. Enjoyed it.

Re: Psychopaths

I really liked Pod a few years back so I'll be generous and say the director was going for a Lynchian feel to this film but fell short. I'm all for a bit of surrealism but this just felt repetitive and unrewarding.
