Re: Films for Halloween All-dayer?
Well at least it's more horror for the Halloween event. A definite improvement on last year film wise. But I don't like the prince charles as a venue for a multi film event the seats are to easy to fall asleep in. Plus as someone who lives outside of London the allday event means I either miss the l...

Re: Films for Halloween All-dayer?
I hope this year as it is the Halloween event they show some actual horrors. Last year was a bit poor. Lazer team although okay was not very halloweeny, and lets not mention momentum and that boring tank film. I think they might have the new Black Fawn production 'Bed of death'. Frightfest has had n...

Re: The Master Cleanse
A fun little movie great effects and a good cast. I thought Anjelica Houston was great even if her role was only small. Also it seemed to fly past I'm not sure how long it was. Worth seeing if you missed it at the festival.

Re: Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word
To be honest I thought this was a bit of a polished turd. It looked fantastic and was well directed but the whole thing felt dumb and cheapened the real story behind the movie. The whole thing with the evil infected scabby arm on the main guy felt stupid. I was hoping I would be pleasantly surprised...

Re: My Father Die
I did rather enjoy this film. Very grim very gritty. I loved the idea of his inner monologue being in the childs voice as he had never heard his voice as an adult. Thought adding the crunching sound effect when he attacked his father the first time was a bit of a cheat and very misleading. But overa...

Re: Quality of films this year
What I find difficult to understand is why these production companies think it's beneficial to force these piss poor movies into the festival as part of a deal. When at the end of the festival all everyone does is tear them apart and say how awful they are. If all your movie gets is nothing but nega...

Knucklebones
Perfect midnight movie stuff. Completely trashy, moronic characters stupid decisions made. Cheap effects on the monster suit. The opening was all over the place. I loved it. Some very funny one liners and some great if cheap gore effects. It was certainly a crowd pleaser and maintained a good sense ...
Re: Siren
I thought this was great. It built massively on the segment from vhs, creating a whole backstory for the creature. Had some great ideas in it like the weird sex club and those memory leaches. The effects for the creature were great. Brilliant turn from Justin Welborn as Mr Nyx. I'd love to see anoth...

Re: Night of Something Strange
A great mix of gross out humour body horror and gore. It had that henenlotter feel and retro appeal. Also out of the whole weekend this had some things i'd not seen done before, some great original ideas. It was limited plot wise but when a movie has you smiling laughing ( and cringing ) all the way...

Re: Best and Worst Films of 2016
Top 5 1. Night of something strange. 2. Siren. 3. Beyond the gates. 4. Let her out. 5. Knucklebones. Special mentions for Gwilliam, Deathmetal and the babysitter murders in the short film showcase. Obviously train to Busan was awesome aswell. Bottom 5 1. Johnny Frank Garretts last words. (If only th...

Re: Let Her Out
There was a naivety to the story telling in this that was reminisent of the 80's for me. I liked the lighting and the music and some of the visual motifs like the womb like lighting in the hotel room where it all began and the final body horror scene took place was interesting. I thought the lead wa...
Re: Cell
The movie rushed through so much of the book and somehow still managed to be boring. What worked as creepy on the written page didn't really translate to the screen, everyone walking round with their mouths wide open just looked silly. Speaking of silly lets not mention Cusacks make up and hair. The...

Most skippable main screen movies?
Each year there are films that after reading the synopsis and watching the odd trailer I have absolutely no desire to see. This doesn't necessarily make them bad films they're just not for me. There are some annoying clashes this year too. I wish the a few of the saturday films were jumbled about a ...

Re: I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine
This was probably my favourite too. It Was a good direction to take the series in. There were some really wince inducing scenes in this one and I thought Sarah Butler did a great job in the lead.
