Re: Death Note
After a nice atmospheric opening 10 minutes this accelerated waaay too quickly, jamming in plot and character development at breakneck speed which left me totally ambivalent towards the fate of any of the characters. A wasted opportunity.

Re: Cult of Chucky
Jennifer Tilley's performance in the q&a was a festival highlight. The film not so much but what can you expect from the seventh film in a killer doll franchise?

Is anyone trialling this? I had a look and can't say that either the content or the way it was organised particularly grabbed me. Any other views?

Aren't all of Romero's films socio-political statements? Fair enough to try something in this film I think even if it was executed with a bit less subtlety than George did

What a piece of crap that person is. You are showing more restraint than I would not to name names!

Re: Train to Busan
Great action film, very good zombie film. Tbh I like a bit more of the red stuff from my zombies but take nothing away from some thrilling sequences. As many a poster has suggested, it made world war z look very plain indeed.

Awful. Pitiful in every respect. Must also set the record for the most gratuitous shots of the eiffel tower in one feature film. ITS IN FRANCE we get it ok!!!

Re: Beyond the Gates
It was an ok 80s tribute, had some fun dialogue and the sight of that video store gave me a big hit of nostalgia as I remembered a similarly disorganised vhs rental place that I used to frequent (mostly searching for Jackie Chan films as I recall). Unfortunately it didn't keep up its early momentum ...

Re: Sadako vs Kayako
With the number of sequels, remakes and rip-offs for these two, it was unrealistic to expect anything remotely like their early incarnations. From that platform then, this delivered a fun, bizarre and occasionally bewildering film experience. The big clash the title promises was a bit of a damp squi...

Re: Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies
Impossible to get through a frightfest without a splatter hungry zom-com. This had the requisite ludicrous plotting and novelty kills, and had a good few laughs to boot. Not as good as Dead Snow 2 then, but several leagues above I Survived a Zombie Holocaust

As promised, this really conjured up that twilight zone mood with its story of disparate characters abandoned in an isolated bus station in the middle of a storm. (very) strange things start happening... Beautifully shot and acted with the right blend of the comic, the weird and the creepy. Really l...

Yeah, disappointed sums up my feelings too. A low budget chase movie which only livens up with its surprisingly affecting finale.

Population Zero
Ponderous documentary based around a genuine legal loophole which in theory at least could let someone get away with murder. I was hoping for something like Lake Mungo but this doesn't deal with the supernatural, but revolves around something much more human. In the end I felt like I'd watched a cle...

Re: From a House on Willow Street
Agree with all the above really. Liked the idea of the kidnappers biting off more than they can chew but once that had been revealed it didn't provide much more than a few jump scares. Also agree with Alex above on the demons somewhat inconsistent powers...
Re: Francesca
A perhaps overly faithful reconstruction of a giallo film but hell, I'll still take that over most other films any day. Loved the ending. Only downsides: (i) not sure of the need for that post credit sequence (ii) what was with that german audio? This is the second year running that giallo has suffe...
