Re: We Are What We Are

Really shocked and surprised by this, I loved it - it was astronomically better than the original, which I hated. The storyline with the girls and the abusive father suited the story far better than the brothers in the original, and the scenes their family from hundreds of years ago worked really we...

Re: Big Bad Wolves

It just astounds me what people find funny and some things are not funny regardless if the context. I wasn't bellowing with laughter, but I did find some of the comments the torturer made amusing, I don't think I'm a moron for finding them amusing cos it's y'know...a film and not actually real. Any...

Re: The Last Days

A massive let down. Never engaged with this one at any point and the ending was woeful. Not the worse film I've ever seen but the weakest of the festival by far. Maybe this Prime slot would have been better filled by Cheap thrills? 2/10 Very much agree, although I think Cheap Thrills was a perfect ...

Re: Conspiracy

Probably the best film of the (admittedly rather weak) day, I didn't really take it all, so I definitely need to watch it again to get fully into it, but still enjoyed it. The cult leader with the pixellated face sounded positively evil with that voice distortion! 7/10

Re: The Dark Tourist

Re: films, it was stronger this year, but Sunday was the worst day by far.

Dark Tourist was a yawn-fest, too flat, uninvolving and dragging to ever become as disturbing and nasty as it wanted to be 3/10

Re: In Fear

The first half worked really well and really build up the tension, but then the climax blew it for me. You spend ages watching them getting lost, getting freaked out by strange signs appearing, their clothes being put in the middle of the road, a creepy masked man lurking behind them etc, and you're...

Re: Missionary

Reallly didn't like this - reminded me quite a bit of the hideously dull Coffin Rock from 2009. For the first 30 minutes its a slushy rom com, then as soon she rejects him he instantly flips to derranged psycho. This'll soon be in bargain bin of your local petrol station 3/10

Re: Cheap Thrills

Gonna give this my film of the festival award (narrowly pipping a few others), perfect for the late night slot, very funny, but still managed to keep it dark, twisted and gorey. Final act possibly predicatle, but it sprang it so quickly I didn't have time to guess what was going to happen lol, 9/10

Re: R.I.P.D

Apparently had a budget of £130m, but the effects still looked extremely cheap and dated. Crappy MIB rip off that seemed to have been throw together in a very half arsed way with loads of unexplained moments and parts unneccesary to the plot. With modern summer movies now like The Avengers, it's not...

Re: No One Lives

Indestructable cool psycho guy dismembers a bunch of arseholes, not original but great fun. Probably gonna go straight to DVD and be forgotten about, but this was great to watch at FF, killer coming out of the dead guys skin was a particularly awesome scene! 8/10

Re: Frankenstein's Army

Dialogue was hard to hear, but to be honest it really didn't matter as it wasn't heavy on the plot. First half with the soldiers wasn't great but once the awesome mosters came in this was great fun 7/10 And I really can't see anyone wanting to ban this - if Irreversible and Inside can get released o...

Re: The Hypnotist

didn't quite have the impact of Girl With The Dragon tattoo, but was still an excellent thriller - quite a slow burner to start with, then really went for it at the end, very nice scenery too! 8/10

Re: 100 Bloody Acres

Tucker & Dales's less funny, less clever and less interesting brother. Fairly watchable, but too slow going and it spent to much time trying to be sweet and cute, whereas if they'd made it darker and nastier it would have been far better imo 5/10

Re: V/H/S 2

Eye transplant - excellent and scary Zombies in park - silly and not as funny as it wanted to be, seemed out of place as the other segments were all serious and scary Chinese cult - long but brilliant Aliens - loud, obnoxious and camera too shakey, but scary and intense. better than the first film, ...

Re: Haunter

Found the first 20 minutes a bit off putting as it just threw you into the middle of things with no explanation of what was going on, and it seemed to be trying to be scary but was totally failing; but after that it really picked up and I got totally into it, good choice for the actor for the killer...
