Some good choices! I'll have to give this some proper thought later on, but here are a few for now:
Robocop - Evil goon drives into Toxic Waste/Face Melt/Hit by a Car:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjEdLuqK1RQ
I'll also choose one from City of the Living Dead, having seen it recently. I'll go for the girl Rose who kind of vomits up loads of gunk in the car and ends up in a bit of a mess, after her eyes have bled out.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)- Kirk's death by hammer and subsequent lingering convulsions after entering the house: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ywNJM45JTY
Maniac (1980) - Tom Savini's unnamed character gets shotgunned in the head, after his 'broad' decides that she's had enough of the car seat action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFblgNAmgNY
Also, outside of the realms of 'horror' (and what about Robocop?)- I must mention the only death to be suffered from a roundhouse kick, followed by falling into a cave, neck break and obliteration by grenade near the end of Rambo III: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR7BHuNjIuQ#t=1m34s
Youtube uploads aren't mine, but hopefully they'll work!

Final Destination
Lots of good deaths in these films but I think the one that stands out the most would be in the first film when that girl walks out on to the road and gets smashed into by the bus. It's become a bit of a cliche now, but that was the first time I had seen it done and I jumped about ten feet in the air when it happened.

Bring her to me, you bum. I'll take care of business.

Best Deaths
All good choices so far. Here's my two penneth;
The Wicker Man (1973) Sgt. Howie slowly roasing as the islanders dance and sing a happy song.
Alien (1979) John Hurt's Kane suffeing from terminal idigestion. In space, apparently, no-one sells Gaviscon.
Jaws (1975) Old seadog Quint being slowly chomped by Bruce the shark. This would count as my least favourite way to go on this thread so far. Avoided the sea for the last 34 years, plan on doing the same for the next 34
The Pit & The Pendulum (1991) The old witch that swallows a handful of gunpowder on the way to the stake. Great stuff.
The Devil's Rain (1975) Ernest Borgnine's Jonathan Corbis and his Satanic cronies in that climactic meltdown.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Similar to the above, Ronald Lacey's Toht & his Nazi cohorts, feeling the wrath of God and melting-down real good.
Deadly Friend (1986) Anne Ramsey's old Mrs Parker and her death by high-speed basketball.
...just realised how many of these are from PG-rated films. What are the worst/most shocking deaths you can recall from 'faimily-friendly' movies?...
Lifeforce (1985) Looking at the term 'Best Death' in a different way, there's no way I'd rather go than being sucked to death by Mathilda May's Space Girl in the Tobe Hooper classic! hock:

well if we can allow Man on Fire to be included then:
Lethal Weapon 2. Derrick Connor + shipping crate = splat
James Cagney going up in flames in White Heat
Frank Nitti being flung off the roof in Untouchables
Ming The Merciless getting the point in Flash Gordon
Carl Weathers in Predator
Hanging death in Suspiria
David Warner feeling a right pane in the Omen.
Boromir in Fellowship of the Rings

Re: Best Deaths
Not exactly a death, but the woman getting turned into a robot in Superman III is the probably the single scariest scene from any film I've seen in my life.Notts Pete wrote: ...just realised how many of these are from PG-rated films. And how about Darth Vader chucking the Emperor down that shaft thingy in Return of the Jedi. And Leia choking Jabba the Hut with that chain.
