Grindy... Kingdom of Heaven was one of the earlier titles released and they were majorly bare bones. The early adopters always get screwed over on any format which is partly why I went HD DVD because Universal titles offered more on the extras front and it IS the better format

Fox are already planning double dips for their titles so it'll appear again with a new transfer and extras, worry not.

It's why I'm holding off buying the spiderman box set, fox are planning to release those again along with Alien Vs Predator and others...

The Descent is FINALLY getting a UK release in November :)

Hopefully it'll be a new transfer... the US one had some shoddy pip encode on the same disc as Profile 1.1 hadn't been released and HDDVD could already do pip on the fly

Blu-Ray PiP is still not up to the standard HD-DVD was... ironically, there's now a new title being released exclusive to HD-DVD! See here - http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/ ... DVD!!/3382

Looks like the UK Descent will inherit the transfer from the Australian release, though you probably know that as I've just spotted you posted in the Blu-Ray forums thread that I got that from ;) :D

The random region locking is really starting to annoy me - anyone know if Lesbian Vampire Killers or Infestation are locked?

EDIT - hmm, wonder why that link didnt work?

LVK is region locked... well I could test it on my US PS3 tonight.

Although FOX in the US apparently haven't locked Wolverine and Region Locking was the reason they didn't go HD DVD if they start getting lax now, I'll be happy but pissed off at the same time :D

I'm almost going to disagree with you on this - the PiP in Watchmen (and to some extent, Crank2) is superb and at least on a par, if not better than any of the HD-DVD implementation's I've seen. That said, these are 2 titles in a veritable ocean of dreadful Blur-ray extras.. :D

It is NOW but back then they were releasing Bluray's with PiP that had TWO encodes of the same film on it... one with the PiP track one without... so you had to watch one or the other whereas HD DVD at the time, could have the PiP track on or off on the fly :D

Seeeeeeeeee :)

Not watched my Watchmen disk yet... urk

Have to say I find 'Behind The Scenes' done as PIP really annoying. Sometimes after watching a film I'd quite happily then watch the 'Making Of' extra but if it's done as PIP then that means sitting through the whole film again and waiting for a bit which has PIP.

Or am I missing something? Is there a way to watch these extras without having the film running?

The Thing (which looks fantastic on Blu-ray) is one example of this.

Thanks for the LVK update!

Am on the US PS3 trail myself, and hoping that the Sony (who don't generally lock) releases of Doghouse and Moon are region free... though considering getting a Blu drive for PC to sidestep the whole thing!

I currently have a US PS3 and UK LG Bluray player... most annoying switching between the two though. :)

Well, the players that I know of that can be multi-regioned are :
Curtis (cack quality, cheap from Currys) - can load the O/S with a different region
Sharp BH20 (dunno if it's still available) - can load the O/S with a different region
Sony s350/360, etc (tend to be over the £300 mark) - can't be ought "off the shelf" as multi-region blu. Few companies do sell them, or cna modify them if required. www.mrmdvd.co.uk is the most popular I think.
Panasonic Bd60, etc (again, not cheap) - as with the Sonys. www.movietyme.com and mrmdvd are the places I know that do them.
Oppo (over £500) - supposed to be the best sub £1000 player out there (and even beats a few of those). Can be properly "chipped", but does have an o/s load which makes it multi-region. crtprojectors are the only importers (although the european version will come out before xmas).
