Question about the end of ‘Martyrs’

Post by A_Scanner »

I just wondered what people who’d seen the French film, Martyrs, made of its ending?

I should probably put a note about SPOILERS here…

What do people think Anna whispered to the old lady to make her blow her brains out?

And what does ‘Keep doubting’ mean?

I think the point is that it is ambiguous.

SPOILER

---

She could have told her that she saw heaven/an afterlife etc and the woman killed herself to get there quicker.

or

She said there was nothing there, and the woman killed herself cos there was nothing left to hope/quest for.

That's what I took anyways.

i think she whispered "this film really isn't as intelligent as the director thinks it is"

I cant in all honesty say I'm a fan of Martyrs but appreciate many are. Personally my reaction was after the movie ended was "huh ?" then I thought about it a little, decided ambiguous and also decided I'd never feel the need to see it again. If youre interested check out the IMDB message boards - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/boa ... /136468403 - quite a lengthy session seems to have gone on discussing the ending. Many opinions seem to say ambiguous, at least one thinks he is absolutely positively totally correct in his interpretation ...... that particular guy doesnt have an opinion ... he just knows he's right .... m'kay. Read and make your own mind up :)

That's cos' she was obviously delirious after being beaten half to death and then skinned. No one would be able to talk sense after that.

What a shame that he has been taken off the Hellraiser project - probably the first remake I could have got a little bit enthusiastic about!

My guess is the La Horde director will now be hired, then taken off the Hellraiser project
