SFX magazine horror special

Post by Ian Berriman »

Hello all.

Firstly, I hope you'll excuse the self-promotion. Alan Jones suggested that I post here, so hopefully it'll be okay!

Alan is one of the contributors to a one-off horror themed issue of SFX which is on sale at the moment, and which I edited.

You can find full details of all the contents here:
http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=sfx ... on_horror1

It's my first go at editing a full magazine, it's been a labour of love, and so I'm just trying to spread the word a little. The better the sales figures are, the stronger the case becomes for doing more issues like this in the future, which, as SFX's resident horror nut, would make me very happy!

Do take a look and see if the contents might interest you. And if you have bought a copy, I'd be very interested in any feedback, either here, at SFX's own forum, or to me direct at iberriman@futurenet.co.uk

Thanks for your time.

Its about time the UK had a decent horror magazine of it's own.

Ooops best not say that... :?

I have read it, and enjoyed it. Only 2 low points being Jason's low position in the top 20 and the fact that there are 2 number 4s in the top 20.

I encourage everone to get this. Good freebies(we got 2 sets of badges, shhhh don't tell anyone).

Hmmmm well I made the trip over to Tesco this morning after work and they only had the April issue which wasn't horror at all? Disappointed! How long has the horror issue been out?

WH Smiths carry it, saw it in there last Monday.

I took a trip to Tesco's and was disappointed Paranormal Ascendency wasn't it there... despite the horrendous reviews!

Very true. Picked it up in WH Smiths this afternoon. 8 bucks!!!! Jesus Christ, made me think twice about the purchase. However I gave in and bought the mag. Very glad I did, nice package. The beer maqts are cute and the buttons are ok. Love the double sided poster. Definately wanna get it framed to display the 'Halloween' side (anyone know a good way to get the folds out) also the magazine looks good has lots of great looking articles. Can't wait to read the feature on Pan books and horror comics. The Spanish horror article looks good too. All round, pleased with the purchase even if the price initially poked my eye out.

I have had no joy finding the mag in Wh smiths and a variety of newsagents but I will keep a watch out for it.

As for PA avoid it at all costs!

Got a copy when it came out. Wish it was monthly. Still there is a Comic special coming out soon.

This was more packed with info than resent Fango

Thanks for the kind remarks.

The special came out on 27 January - I'm afraid most of the publicising around the net that I intended to do then has taken a back seat to catching up with my regular duties for a few weeks - finally got the time to spread the word round a bit more.

As someone above noted, you should be able to pick it up in Smiths. Failing that, you can always ask your friendly local newsagent to order in a copy especially (SFX COLLECTION: HORROR. Internally we call it SFX special number 42), or our customer services people may have some stock left - their number is 01858 438 794

The price is more expensive than the regular SFX, but think of it as £2.00 more than an import copy of Fango and I don't think it looks so bad!
