Apparently I my Marx Brothers boxset finally arrived today. This one features 'Cocoanuts' 'A Girl In Every Port' 'Room Service' and 'Love Happy', all of which I haven't seen. Exciting stuff.

if there is a choices rental store near you, go and check out the super cheap dvd's on sale there as they might be closing at any time due to being under receivership.

Class of 1984
Bowling for Columbine 2disc
Night watch 2 disc
The planet of the Apes TV series

Picked up American Werewolf in London (my favourite film of all time and I only own it on VHS - insanity!) and The Prestige in the Play sale.

"Written & Directed By Preston Sturges" box set down to £25 from £70 and a Warners Hitchcock box set (featuring Strangers On A Train 2-discer, I Confess, The Wrong Man...and more) down to £12 from £62. Absurdly good bargains which made my month.

Bless HMV and all who sail (sale?) in her.

At the Frightfest...

Post by festerin' frank »

Whilst at the Frightfest I bought the new Willard after hearing good things about it from Zomblee.

I have the Criterion if... on order for the last month from CDWOW...I think I will have to cancel it and get it from somewhere else...

My mum gave me the Ingmar Bergman boxset recently and I would like to get the Brothers Quay and the Jan Svankmajer box sets...

From the stall @ Fright Fest:

The Abandoned
The Torturer (the new Bava Jr films - it's supposed to be crap, but if so I'll just put it on E-Bay)
Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion (or whatever it's called)
A grindhouse trailer collection.
Grindhouse Double Bill: Pick-Up + The Teacher (this will go on E-Bay)

Am currently bidding for The Night of the Sunflowers on E-Bay

Music between films, albums by:

Dungen
Token Entry
Hard-Ons
The Concretes
Bobby Conn
Regina Spektor
Ted Leo and the Pharmecists

By the way, that Third Light CDEP that came with the goodie bag wasn't too bad.

Some stuff from Choices and HMV:

Dog Soldiers
The Abyss (2-disc)
Wrong Turn
South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut
Star Wars 4-6 (2-discs with the original cinema versions; picked up the last copy of Jedi they'd got. £20 for the three. I wouldn't touch the prequels.)
Night Watch (2-discs)
Billion Dollar Brain + the two Flint movies; only interested in the two Flints because I've never seen them and they have Jerry Goldsmith scores.

Hitchcock box set: the Universal one (14 titles including Frenzy, Psycho, Marnie et al; reduced from £90 to £25).

Choices also have stacks of ex-rental titles: 5 for £10. I'll probably pick up a bunch of them and then take 'em down to Cash Converters and get 50p back off them. They included House of the Dead 2.

I bought 5 DVDs from HMV and was eager to share what they were but this is my first day back at work after FF and my brain has fallen out with the dire straightness of it all!!

I do remember that I bought Alone in the Dark with Alan Arkin and Audrey Hepburn, and Diner.

Also got Sunshine from the stall at FF.

If I recover myself I will let you know the other stuff I got. It might be that I've got confused after spending Saturday alphabetising the DVD collection with daughter and we've run out of shelves!

Yes, I too would rather use the internet at work rather than pay for it at home (although that may change as I got withdrawal symptons last week).

This Is England turned up yesterday. My favourite film this year by some way. Looks like the extra features are pretty good too.

Okay, brain almost recovered. I meant to say that I bought Wait until Dark (not Alone in!). Also got Omega Man and Last King of Scotland. There's still one that I cannot for the life of me remember so it must have been really stunning.
