Tis a shame since Zavvi were kinda forcing GAME and HMV to compete with their prices... :(

When they released the expanded INDIANA JONES soundtrack boxset last month, I went into both Zavvi and HMV's West End shops to get prices. When I informed the youth in Zavvi that HMV's price was considerably lower, I was told "we don't price-match".

Money can't buy THAT kind of business acumen....

Works both ways though.. Dead Space on the 360 was 35 quid on a HUGE ad board outside zavvi, went into game next door and they were 10 dearer and got the same price match response :( Although my Zavvi price matched :D

HUZZAH!!!

It is a shame as I get discount at Zavvi

I think the writing has been on the wall for many music retailers for some time, maybe down to illegal downloads, online gaming etc who knows. And I think supermarkets selling games, dvds and cd's can not have helped.

We lost a classic last year in Music Zone, that was an awesome shop, always had good prices for things but still it went under. So much seems to be going on online sales but if the consumer get's a better deal and is not requiring the item straight away then that's where they will take their business.

One thing that does surprise me is that we have not heard about cinemas struggling, yes people will go but if you have less to spend then I would have thought nights out at the cinema would be something people would cut back on. Or maybe we have not heard about it just yet.

I would not like to see the end of any music/film retailer, nothing beats wandering round contemplating what to buy, thinking of another film to get so you can buy the 5 for £30 off that they have on. Buying online has it's pluses but I still like to buy from a shop.

I don't like to think that supermarkets are a good place to buy your music and films, yes you can get stuff that's new or in the chart but not much outside of that. But then when you get Morrisons selling chart albums at £7 most people will take their custom there.

I think 2009 will be quite interesting

checked out zavvi.. lots of cheap stuff

got assassination of jesse james double for 3.99 (as i haven't seen it yet)

eagle versus shark for 5.99 (as i LOVE the flight of the conchords and missed this also)

and the complete spaced triple set with loads of extras for 7.99

no blu rays in the sale..boo!

checked out the dying woolworths... nothing just still over-priced dvds which are much cheaper elsewhere and zero BR's - shelfs were cleared.

hmv looked ok as well but again no br's - and there's no point in picking up iron man for 8 quid on the regular format.
