Short notice, but tonight 11.25 on BBC1 is Paul Andrew Williams' London to Brighton. From the chappie that made The Cottage and worked on The Children with Tom Shankland. Much, much darker in tone. A harrowing but extremely well made story about a prostitute and the young runaway girl she befriends.

Harper's Island coming to BBC3. Heard good things about this...
Brand new to BBC Three, Harper's Island brings murder and mystery to the channel. The series pushes the boundaries of traditional television with frightening, tense and exciting drama that will keep the viewer riveted.

A secluded island off the coast of Seattle is the scene for a week-long wedding celebration attended by a group of family and friends. But amidst the festivities, a murderer begins claiming victims one by one, transforming the occasion into a terrifying struggle for survival.

Over 13 episodes, Harper's Island will unravel a twisted tale of murder and revenge as these wedding guests – each with their own motives, fears and desires – attempt to find the killer (or killers) before they strike again ...

Being Human
Hardly a triumphant return but acceptable enough. The fallout from the first season seems logical but under played. Why is george not just killed outright by vamps?
It isnt like he is any force to be reckoned with when human. It also exposes the limitations of the werewolf myth as a dramatic device. Well at least as its shown in this show where Annie is a ghost all the time yet is now somehow able to be seen by everyone and can interact with her environment completley, Mitchell is a Vampire all the time but he can go out in the daylight - which handily sidesteps any handicaps regarding a nocturnal lifestyle. George blackouts out once a month and while he might have heightened senses these hardly compensate when he is repeatedly having his over exposed bottom handed to him.
This also highlights a flaw of the finale last year. why on earth did Herrick not just rip out Georges throat while he was changing? He is even more vulnerable at that point.
An incredibly sexy new vampire called Daisy brightens up the episode considerably while we are subjected to more contrived histronics via the partner of George being infected. Soapy arguing ensues with both characters self indulging beyond endurance. Its probably been done to give Russell "trade" Tovey more "acting" to do but if i were to give my opinion of his ability it would seriously offend some board irregulars.
Ill stick with it of course but the set up just doesnt seem to have much in it for a long term spell, unless it plays on the comedic value more - which is always when this series is at its best.

Heroes season 4
I swore i would lay off this but thanks to BBC iPlayer and insomnia i gave the two episode return of this a start. Well its buisness as usual. How can such an open concept be so limited in its vision? Fangirls whining there isnt enough Zachary Quinto i guess. Yes its "oh no sylar is coming back" bollocks, get rid of this character as you have no use for him unless you give him an actual agenda good or bad. Similarly we are still stuck with Clare hiding her powers at an education establishment, her father floundering around with the specials, Ando and Hiro doing their routine again, so far we havent got the Mohinder voice over thank Odin but we still have Peters mum being all conspiritorial. Matt is even worse than ever with them clearly trying to work an addiction metaphor into the show.
The mysterious new Carnival set of characters might be of interest especially considering the presence of Robert Knepper. But I spose they will waste him the same way they wasted Robert Forster last year - or any number of newer villains merely to make Sylar look better.
Of course i hope they dont do a "prison break" with him and dilute and compromise whatever character they craft for him just to justify his inclusion season after season. But as this is exactly what they have done with Sylar...

Neither of the above shows provided as much tv gold as a bried snippet of Celeb Big Brother last night where i swear Stephen Baldwin out and out used the jedi mind trick on some dozy tart.
