The Gaming Thread

Post by Satans Puppy » Sun Jan 20, 2008 1:41 am

Wooo, there's been lots of discussion in the HD DVD thread about PS3 and 360s, so why not open a gaming thread, there's lots to look forward to this year.

Devil May Cry 4
Silent Hill 5
Resident Evil 5

Urrrrr.... yeah :)

Anyway, my wonderful new piece of kit called the PS3 arrived on friday and the best thing is, it's an import machine and all I needed to do was plug in a kettle lead to get it working as the voltage converter is built in. :)

The only thing I don't like about it is. I bought the 40GB model and after downloading a 1.3 gig demo and latest firmware, I only had 30GB left, now you may think that's a lot but imagine my surprise to find out that you need to INSTALL some games onto your hard disk as the Read speed of the bluray drive is not considered fast enough to read some game data... A Symptom of forcing Bluray onto the market so soon before it was ready? Possibly, sony admitted the PS3's original delay was to do with bluray drives....

Anyway, with Devil May Cry 4 out in a couple of weeks I decided to try out the PSNetwork, have to admit it's set out better then the Live Marketplace on the 360, that's beside the point though. I downloaded the HiDef Trailer for DMC4 and by the end of it my Jaw hit the floor, it looks absolutely amazing but with the PS3 version you can apparently expect a 20 min (approx) install time and kiss 5 gigs disk space goodbye.

One good thing about the install time is, if like me you've never played the DMC series, then you'll be able to read the back story during installation :)

Oh and on top of that.... The PS3 was super easy to set up on wireless and through HDMI it will find the best settings for your TV Set.... :)

Annnnnnnnyways... What're your games of the moment and what're you lookin forward to this year?

There is a gaming thread coming soon i believe.
the 360 Elite finds the TVs setting darn easy too, thats just the benefit of HDMI
my samsung Tv is 1080i and my main Sony tv is 1080p.
i upgraded to the elite because i got a great deal on it with 6 games and even though its 120 gigs im never really using more than 20 or so gigs of memory even with all the trailers game demos and saves im using.

when i decide to get a PS3 im gonna look around for the 60 gb one so that i can still have the benefit of playing some PS2 games on it then take out the 60 gigs and upgrade to a few hundred.

Theres no doubt the new devil may cry looks fantastic, im looking forward to Turok, army of two & the new mercenaries game.

whats been rocking my world the past few months has been COD4 just incredibly great fun and gets better the more i play it,its taken over from Halo 3 and Assasins creed for me.

what i loved playing last year was Bullet Witch now dont laugh, its not that bad and beyond the 1st impressions gets to be very playable & challenging and tough in some levels,im well on my way to the 1000 GPs club once i finish chaos mode and hell mode too.

there happens to be a great side scrolling shooter out on Xbox marketplace right now called Omega five a souped up turbo charged version of those Snes games like Cybernator, with great graphics and an addictive playability level.
i have stashed away a veritable amount of gaming history Nes Snes N64 Gc GBA,megadrive Dreamcast game gear, xbox & 360, i dont play them all but HOTD2 on dreamcast with the gun is still great to play.

I'm really enjoying the cinematic feel of Uncharted (PS3), there was one section near the very beginning where the camera switches to the point and the platform your standing on begins to collapse... run run run... it was very Indina Jones...

Although the amount of enemies that crawl out of the woodwork can be very annoying and since early levels are set in jungle areas, I'm having trouble seeing these enemies due to colour blindness

Don't know if I'll get DMC4 on Xbox or PS3.... Xbox there isn't the need to install but the PS3 is so darn quiet!!

I personally feel that it was time the 60G PS3 came down in price, surely that must be on the cards

They're not doing the 60gigs anymore... it's 40 or 80gigs now and the PS2 emulation has been taken off both along with memory card slots...

Basically to cut down production costs and sony are getting greedy by releasing a budget PS2 shortly. Only way to get emulation is to order the 80gb from the US but even then, PS2 games are Region Coded so you wouldn't be able to play your UK collection :P

BE careful with places like CEX... they'll exploit the whole rareness of them as they did with the wii at christmas... £320 they wanted for a wii they had in their window on the run up to chrimbo.
