Just finished The Boys vol 5: Herogasm- Garth Ennis just doesn't let up with the filth and fury in this fantastic anti-superhero series, so contravercial that it had to leave DC comics and is now continueing under Dynamite. Deffinately not one for humourless prudes or persons of a sensitive disposition. I love Garth Ennis.

Also read a nice Zombie short: A Very Zombie Christmas- nice black and white shorts with festive undead. Also scored but not yet read the first issue of Victorian Undead, Sherlock Homes versus Zombies- sound good?

A quick ps. if Rufus is reading: Vol 3 of Sea of Red didn't really live up to the expectations set by the first two, Wasteland is on balance a better title- much cheaper and still ongoing at volume 5.

Just finished The Club Dumas. This novel is probably old news for many of you on here, but if you want a literary novel with an occult twist, this is exceptional. The Ninth Gate (Johhny Depp and Polanski effort) tried to bring it to the screen but was far too limited in scope. The original novel is creepy, clever and twisted in equal measure.

i started and finished The Road today, a superb novel and a good one to end the year on.
i have under the dome from stephen king to read,but i cant help thinking this is taken from the simpsons movie

Def anything by Wrath James White- he just had his second mass market book published in december 09- The Ressurectionist. I have read his first mass market 'Succulent Prey' and lots of his indie press novels 'The Book Of A Thousand Sins' is most definately my favourite. Not for the faint-hearted or easily grossed out! His books are about flesh, carnivore, philosophy, theology and lots of gratuitous sex.. He has collaborated with folk like Ed Lee and Brian keene- and def one to watch!

Axelle Carolyn - It Lives Again - Horror Movies In the New Millenium

Brilliant book, very well written, showing links from social unease, the threat of terrorism and conumer fears to the influence on horror films.

I can not reccomend this enough, best £16.99 I have ever spent.

Well researched, good images and an excellent breakdown of films.

It shows that from about 2003 onwards we have had some of the best (or certainly extreme) films ever made and that during the 90s horror was very poor as a rule and it took the events of 9/11, 7/7 and the Madrid bombings to create some inspiration in the horror world.

I had never associated films like The Ring, Pulse, One Missed Call etc to be a reflection on Japanese societies fears/mistrust of the advances of technology

I just finished Dean Koontz Breathless and started the first True Blood book last night

Yeah I didn't know that when I bought it though.

I had been looking for this for ages to no avail and then found it last week in Forbidden Planet.

Awesome book, just upto the emergence of the so called torture porn style of horror and the "splat pack"

It does highlight how much horror output has improved over the last decade although it does seem to be teetering on the edge a little when we are seeing countless remake after remake and watered down versions of classics such as what they did with Prom Night.

However it also shows that horror has its ups and downs and if we are sort of heading into a low point then chances are something better and more inventive/scary won't be too far away.
