This looks really good, although I was a little bemused at Stuart Gordon's theory that 9-11 is responsible for the number of apocalyptic/zombie movies...
If you cut off my head, what would I say... Me and my head, or me and my body? What right has my head to call itself me?

Actually I think it is comments like his which will make this production stand out.

I really enjoyed the American Nightmares documentary from a few years back, which suggested the raging Vietnam war created a climate in which Last House was made, and a climate in which people wanted to see such movies.

A simplistic way of putting it: the films - while being escapism - were also a way of facing up to a violent world. And the zombie genre today being a fine example.

However some comments on American Nightmares angle were that this was all just bollocks :P

At the very least, I believe it's times like these when it's harder for censors to make cuts - because whatever's onscreen, far worse is happening for real elsewhere.

So is it worth making a new documentray which examines the post 9/11 /Gulf War 2/ Zombie revival/ Torture Porn years of our lives..?

I'd say so, yes!

it's the same way that made me think that the obliteration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki shaped the face of japanese cinema and anime.

Will be interesting to see if the doc' will have any new light to shed on this over analysed genre.

I think Paul and Johanna's relationship with many of the interviewees will at least give us a much more candid talking heads pic than we usualy get. The GDT footage already confirms thats possibly the case.
