I was frequently reminded, whilst watching red Hill, of the - frankly brilliant - film High Plains Drifter. So I was quite disspointed that there was no supernatural element to the film, and that it was literally just a normal guy wiping out the town to get revenge (come on, he got through all that without a single scratch on him?). Still, it had its moments, had some great cinematography, a good performace from the lead (oh he's come a long way since Vinny on Home & Away hasn't he?) and some excellent action scenes.

The panther was just ridiculous. Fuck the panther.

I loved this movie. Was indeed the first excellent movie of the festival imo.

Ryan Kwanten was brilliant and I can seriously see him becoming the next massive hollywood star. I was so blown away to find he didn't actually sound like a southern american hick  I had no idea he was australia! I found him really likeable and engaging.

And just for the record I liked the panther.

I second the love for the panther, reminded my of the bit with the tiger in Manhunter in that it really didn't add anything to the plot, but was nicely surreal.

Oh yeah that's the one where the blind woman strokes the sedated tiger isn't it?

I so love that bit, made it a lifelong ambition to stroke a real live grown tiger. And lion and any other big cat.

Yes that's the bit, always thought that was the invention of Michael Mann, but it's in the novel.
