The 2011 FILM4 FrightFest All Nighter - Human Centipede II

Post by iomega »

FrightFest is delighted to be hosting the UK premiere of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE II (FULL SEQUENCE). FrightFest world premiered the original film back in August of 2009. After all the fuss and all the column inches that have been written about this film both for and against, in the end what did you think of it?

Much respect and kudos to all the Frightfest boys for making this happen, it is an extraordinary victory over censorship, and a great day for the film industry and horror fans nationwide, who will now be able to watch this film legally- the film itself has become almost irrelevant, but I still can't wait to see it; it's a centipede made out of humans! Again!

Seriously guys, well done.

Very dark, very twisted, almost documentary-style movie shot in black and white. Although the main plotline is similar to the first film, the feel is quite different. Not for all tastes, while the sexual elements will be offputting for some. A good performance from the actor who played Martin helped to anchor the film - despite never saying a word. 8 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Different from the first film but equally as good. HC2 delivers what you expect and does it in style. Dieter Laser introducing the film in character as Dr. Heiter goes down as one of the most memorable frightfest moments of all time.

Firstly it was great to have pretty much all the cast at the Vue, and the centipede in the tank in the cinema bar was a nice touch, really made it feel like a unique occassion. Also Dietar Lazer introduction was great!

Secondly, I'm not sure if the "100% Medically INaccurate" tagline is really justified, in fact it seems more realistic that the events in this film could occur than the events in the original; in the original it is very unlikely the centipede could have survived so long without members dying from blood poisoning and malnutrition, however in this sequel they were just fixed together by a staple gun and only in the chain for a short amount of time, and some die as a result of his actions, so bizarrely enough this seems MORE medically accurate than the original.

Oh yes, and THE FILM! This is a horrible, grubby, dreary, vile and disgusting piece of crap....whereas the first one ultimately ran out of ideas, but was at least likeable for its quirkyness and black humour, this film was just an endless barrage of shit in peoples faces, arses exploding with shit, centipedes up arses, anal rape, babies flying out of pregnant women....blah blah blah. And it wasn't a crap film just because it was disgusting, as well as that it was REALLY BORING - just a tedious succession of him finding person after person, smashing them in the head then taking them to his grubby factory and stappling them up....there was basically no storyline, just one dull scene played over and over again. No doubt this film will be regarded as "torture porn", but it's really not that, it's basically scat porn.

I saw Gutterballs a while ago and thought it was the crappest most vile piece of shit I'd ever seen, but Human Centipede 2 does the impossible and manages to be even worse and more distasteful than Gutterballs.

Well I have been saying that Tom Six went out of his way to challenge the censors on this one and as the first half was sort of character buildy and interesting in the way he chose his victims. The second half turned into Hostel-esque violence wankfest which in the context of the story was a little too much.

I wasn't disgusted but then again I don't mind that sort of stuff as long as there's a real reason behind it and we keep coming back to those reasons in order to at least try and pass off a story.

I had to leave just before the violence began cause I got waaaaaaaay to hot but watched the rest, standing at the back... really didn't like what I saw but totally appreciate Eureka Entertainment managing to meet the BBFC cuts and get it a UK release :)

First off, Dieter Laser was awesome and the Q&A at the end was a lot of fun.

The movie itself is a bit of a conundrum for me. On initial viewing, I found it was boring and ridiculous. But the more I think about it, I've started to realise how clever and subtle it actually is, far more so than the original. I was expecting to hate it but I like it more now then when I first saw it.

I could have done without the gravy train scene though.. eww.

This felt a bit like a child wanting to show off his first poo to approving parents. I'm afraid though, a nasty smell is just a nasty smell. Tom Six didnt convince at all apart from giving censorship a good name.

Now this was the film i was dying to see after all the controversy it caused for the fuckwits at the BBFC.
Loved the gimmick of having the live centipede in the bar area.Wanted to take the damn thing home with me :).
The introduction to the movie by the in character Dieter Laser was great.
The movie itself was everything i expected from Tom Six and i thoroughly enjoyed every sick moment of it.Wish i could see the fully uncut version though.
The actor who played the lead character of Martin was very believable even though he had no dialogue.
The Q & A afterwards was really good and it was a real blast to see nearly all the cast there.
Tom you are a fucking legend, keep up the great work.Looking forward to HC3 (Final Sequence)
Will definitely purchase this one on bluray.

Thought i saw the DVD of it in HMV earlier

My rating is definitely 5/5

In this movie, we're invited to watch as an emotionally-damaged man derives sexual pleasure from torturing and disfiguring the other characters.

That's all.

Spare me any bullshit about subtext, about Tom Six playing with the absurdity of the idea that a movie can deprave - this was the cinematic equivalent of someone taking a dump on your carpet and expecting to be applauded for being provocative.

I was genuinely enraged to be part of this, if only as a spectator. I can understand the motivation behind the self-righteous pantomime booing of the squares at the BBFC, but I'm utterly mystified that anyone can find any merit in grubby, infantile crap like this.

As a seasoned Frightfester, I've become used to experiencing a wide range of reactions, not all of them positive - but I've never found myself rendered speechless with anger by what I've seen.

Plus the lack of AC was annoying...

Far better than we had any right to expect, and the cuts do not harm the film. They do not diminish the subtext and message because there is no subtext or message. It's a stupid, yukky grossout horror film. And as a stupid, yukky grossout horror film it's fine: spectacularly revolting and in grotesque bad taste.

I was expecting this to just be shock-for-shock's-sake, but it wasn't really like that, as it turned out.

The progression of the plot was fairly dull, but the film had some style about it and some of the B&W photography, especially the close-ups of Martin's face, had a bargain-basement David Lynch quality about it.

I liked the differences from the first film - the change in style, and that Martin's attempts to make his centipede, far from being "100% medically accurate", were essentially amateurish and doomed to failure.

And I enjoyed the "event" with Dieter Laser's introduction and the lengthy Q&A. Nice one.

Ah, so the board finally let me register, excellent.

Have to say, I really enjoyed HC2, especially with all the William Castle type theatrics before-hand with Dieter Laser ( sp ) doing that great little warm up routine.

I understand the film is an acquired taste and that it has very few features that will be redeeming in a lot of peoples eyes, but, what can I say, I loved the grimy horrible, down in the muck qualities of the film and it was clearly created to provoke reaction from people, I am always happy when a film can elicit any emotion from me as a viewer, positive or negative, like for example, Cannibal Holocaust, this is not a film I particularly enjoy watching, but it should absolutely exist.

I do believe there is a genuine attempt to essay about the effect of film violence going on, it takes the appropriate standpoint, that there is never an excuse for imitation of any screen violence and anyone who would do so, is a deplorable character, I certainly feel there is a substance to it.

I liked it.

I do worry about the potential fallout when mainstream audiences ( to me Human Centipede was a massive mainstream hit ) see the second, as it is not in the same zone of safe campy gross out stuff, it is ....nasty, in the best/worst sense of the word.

I enjoyed it, had a good time, it is what it is.
