The Caller

I found this to be a bit of a bizarre, incoherent, winding labyrinth of confusing genre traits ranging from slasher to 'Nam war references, to pseudo-scientific ghostly apologies. It might have been perfectly coherent given a bit of conscious, early-morning thought, but it didn't persuade me to muster the effort to do the work.

This one was one of my favourites of the festival - a true Discovery and I'm so glad I blew off A Night In The Woods for it.

Crikey, sounds a bit weird. I will probably watch it when it's out now.

In fact I have made an effort to watch as many discovery screen films as possible from last year just to see what was on offer, and will do the same this year.

* Spoilers, maybe? *

I really enjoyed this until the last twenty minutes. I was expecting a particular ending—which I felt the script had cleverly set up, and with which I would have been very satisfied even though I saw it coming—and then it just went slasher. I was quite disappointed, as I much preferred the ending I had in my head!
