ooh - has a film been pulled at the last minute??

In terms of potential films has The ABC's of Death been mentioned? I note that it's currently in post production.

Xavier Gans' Cold Skin is unlikely to show, as I don't belive it had actually started filming yet.

Nothing's been pulled, it's actually the opposite, the films just haven't been confirmed yet, which is why the delay in announcing has come about. It should all be in place soon and there'll be an announcement when things have been confirmed.

The following films have been announced for Fantasy Film Fest which runs in a number of German cities at the same time as Fright Fest (the festival has a slightly wider scope so I guess they might not all be Fright Fest candidates):

Ace Attorney (Takashi Miike)
Chained (Jennifer Chambers Lynch - this was already announced back in March)
Cleanskin (Hadi Hajaig)
Detetntion (Joseph Kahn - shown last year at Fright Fest)
Eva (Kike Mailo)
Grabbers (Jon Wright - which is part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival line-up)
The Hidden Face (Andres Baiz)

There was a strong overlap between the films shown at Fright Fest and Fantasy Film Fest last year- especially for those films with "guests". I assume its cheaper to ship prints and guests to Europe if they can hit a number of events one after the other.

From the other suggestions above:

Juan of the Dead already played in Edinburgh at Dead by Dawn
Lovely Molly and V/H/S will play at the Edinburgh International Film Festival at the end of the month (but as last years Troll Hunter showed that doesn't exclude them from screening at Fright Fest).
Rec 3 is due for release on Blu-Ray and DVD the week after Fright Fest. It would be a shame if the film doesn't get a wider cinema release as its rather good (saw it in Hamburg earlier this year).

My hope is that "Sleep Tight" is shown. Really good Spanish thriller that I would quite like to see again.

"Ace Attorney"?! What, based on the DS game? Takashi Miike? The mind boggles ...

I'd forgotten about "Grabbers"! That's gone down well in some of the film festivals in the US. I reckon that's a dead cert...
Along with that expecting to see;
Maniac - (Allegedly Elijah Wood gives a gold-medal performance)
Chained - (As already mentioned)
Dracula 3D - (I don't want to see it. I gave up on Dario after Giallo. But I'm sure Alan will be on stage apologising before it's shown ... ).
Rec : Genesis - (Or Rec3, whatever they call it ... as long as it's not "Paco Plaza's Rec Assemble"!)
The Victim - (Danielle Harris ... yes please! ,,, and Michael Biehn who also directed!)
Outpost II : Black Sun - (Especially after the preview last year...)

Other suggested candidates are;
The Harsh Light of day
The Fallow Field
The Aggression Scale
Truth or Dare

Hope that opening / closing announcement is made soon.
Be seeing you .... in the sleepy queue ...

I'm being lazy and (a) not checking to see if it's already been mentioned and (b) not checking when it's actually released, but presumably Cockneys Versus Gansgters would be a shoe-on after last year's preview.

I am also assuming that any new film by FF regular directors will probably be show.

So the newsletter is out. I've had my eye on The Seasoning House for a while now, so I'm excited about that.

But what of the hints... here's my guesses:

"There’s the anthology you want to see"
Could be V/H/S or ABCs of Death, but I think the latter is the one we really want.

the best Halloween 2012 release
My guess is Sinister, but V/H/S is also out then

the greatest serial killer thriller since HENRY
My guess is Jennifer Lynch's Chained

and this year’s AMER
I got nothing ;)

This years Amer could be that black rainbow or whatever its called, think that's a weird trippy art film like Amer, not my cup of tea tbh bt rec 3 - I'm so there.

I don't think it's Beyond the Black Rainbow, that played the London Sci Fi Film Fest over a year ago so it's a bit long in the tooth. Might make the Discovery screen

Guessing that 'this year's Amer' is either Tulpa or Masks - hopefully both.

Pretty pleased with The Seasoning House not too bothered about Tower Block, from the small amount of information I've gathered about it it sounds a little boring but I hope to be proved wrong.

Was it the FF Twitter feed which featured photos of freebies that the boys had picked up in Cannes. Occured to me that some of these could very well have been clues. IIRC there was something to do with Dracula 3D and some juggling balls promoting Stitches, a clown horror featuring Ross Noble. Now, FF obviously love to get directors to come back again, and Stitches is directed by the guy who did Dead Meat.

I have a concern over ABC's - each segment will presumably be rather short so it could end up being a right mess. V/H/S has been getting a great reviews. However it presumably is ABC's which will be shown (although there's no reason why both won't be shown, what with the both films having links to FF).
