Exactly this. The majority will be based off the pre-screening marketing hyperbole and not off actually seeing the films (with the exception of Scott Whineberg) so a generous pinch of salt is required.

That said, it's just like us speculating on what's going to be good on here, just in a more... uh... website-based format. :)

I've seen recommendations for James Wan's DEMONIC and also for ANOTHER ME. Hmmmmm.....

Am I the only one not seeing the love for BANJO/ can someone try and sell it to me?

I'm torn (not a pun, given the synopsis of said film). On the one hand it looks ultra-low budget, with acting to match, but on the other it *is* supposed to be an homage to Troma and films of that ilk so it probably fits well in that pigeonhole. I guess it comes down to your tolerance for shoestring-budget movies, traded off against what looks like a bonkers story with insane amounts of gore.

There's usually a thread for FF articles, but I couldn't find one so I'm gonna just quietly place this here and calmly walk away. It's a FF article.

Of this years line-up I already saw:

The Lazarus Effect (Fantasy Film Nights in Hamburg, Germany's equivalent of the Fright Fest Glasgow Weekender) which I found to be a little pedestrian. It explores some of the ideas of Joel Schumacher's Flatliners but takes the themes in a slightly different direction.

However I really liked These Final Hours (which played last August at Fantasy Film Festival, Germany's slightly longer version of Fright Fest London) which explores all of those fantasies you had as a kid about what you would do if you knew the world was about to end. I guess its not really an outright horror film, but its good to see it in the Fright Fest line-up. Having said that I will pass as I already saw it on the big screen and have it on blu-ray somewhere.

I just bought my tickets for Fantasy Film Fest in Berlin (28 films squeezed into 9 days at the beginning August) so should have the opportunity to see the following films in Berlin ahead of Fright Fest:

Bite
Body
Demonic
Frankenstein
Howl
Nightfare
Nina Forever
Rabid Dogs
Scherzo Diabolica
Some kind of Hate

I will also pop over to Hamburg to see The Hallow, a couple of days before I arrive in London.

Still I will have to make some tough choices as even allowing for the films I have seen there are still many clashes. For example should I pass on the opportunity to see Hawk the Slayer (with guests) in favour of the new films it plays against?

I think I'll probably rename this thread, seeing as the article sharing is strong here.
