9/10 - horror themed comedy. The second act is slow, but it's there to set up the hilarious third act, so stick with it.

I saw the additional screening and thought it was absolutely brilliant. You need to stick with it through the 1st act. Immensely clever and finally heart warming

7/10. Genuinely funny, multi-layered zombie joint from Japan that shows just how much you can do with a very limited budget when the core idea is rock solid. It's clever, in that it makes you think about what you're seeing (and not seeing) when you watch a movie, but never gets bogged down by its framing gymnastics.

By far the best (and biggest surprise) film of the festival.

Dont think ive been in a horror film and laughed so much. The crowd upstairs in PCC were nearly wetting themselves.

POM!

With the caveat that I walked out after half an hour and didn't see it all, I'm still baffled by all the fuss about this - I found it irritating, unengaging and woefully unfunny.

It didn't help that the bloke on one side of me - to follow a recurring theme - didn't smell too pleasant and the one on the other was laughing so loudly I could barely stand the noise, but if this taught me anything it's not to get swayed by hype to the point where you question your choices. I didn't think this would be for me, it wasn't and I passed up my ticket for Black Site which I might have liked. And I even got up early and queued for the privilege :D

That's perfectly understandable. The third act is the key to happiness.

My favourite film of the festival by some distance.

That this was a last minute choice when getting Discovery tickets and that that lead to the biggest trauma when purchasing added to the film. Never have I felt so rewarded in seeing a film by blind luck. I managed to see the Friday screening and on recommendation a friend saw the additional one.

He informed me that during their introduction Ian and Paul wanted it on the main screen but Alan overruled(?), make of that what you will.

I'm sure that's true, but that would have meant sitting through the rest of it :D

I do remember I hated Birdman all the way through until the last fifteen minutes which completely turned the whole thing around and I'm glad I stayed, but I wasn't at the end of four and a bit days of films when I saw that and I think it affects your tolerance more than if you'd just paid £10-15 to see one thing on its own.

I've wondered a few times whether some of the Discovery films weren't on the main screen partly because the IMAX screen is too big for them to show well? I don't know much about resolution, but whilst I didn't like OCOTD I still think it could have been on the main bill so everybody could have seen it rather than it taking up three Discovery slots and I wondered if it wasn't just down to it being too low res to be watchable at that size?

I once went to Alton Towers. I spent 30 minutes in the queue for Nemesis and then just left. I don't get what the fuss is about on that ride. Standing in the queue was really boring.

Hadn't considered that but then again I don't know how modern digital cinema projection systems work but resolution shouldn't be the issue or picture quality regards of the size of screen it is being shown on, unless the screen is too dark...

Anyway, about the film.

Easily makes it into my Top picks of all the films I've ever seen at FrightFest.

Yes, the 2nd act can drag but it paints characters and their motivations quite well and it is indeed the 3rd act that sets it apart.

Perfect to see with a FrightFest audience and I'm sure will reward on repeat viewings without them too.

And I thought the zombie genre had run its course, it definitely has now and what a way to send it off.
