8/10 - Solid remake. Personally, I don't really like
Spoiler:
the tentacle... or the thing on the wall for that matter
... to me, they feel like they've wandered in from a different movie.

And seriously, only in a horror movie could someone walk into a room and not notice that until they've backed into it...

I thought exactly the same on the final point above! I kept looking at it in the background and wondered why no-one in the film seemed to notice!

That aside, it is a very decent remake, albeit quite different to the original (as far as I can recall, as it's been a while since I last saw it) and infused with the Soskas' own brand of twistedness.

Body horror, gore, mad, weird science and more are all present and correct, but perhaps the film is lacking a big, sustained setpiece to really cap it all off. Very watchable and thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. 8.5 / 10

It was good, maybe no great, but definately worth catching. A more logic choice, imo, to close the festival than A GOOD WOMAN..., which was a good, well made thriller but not one to get the audience on their feet

Very silly with obvious satirical targets but enjoyable

It was OK, but it never felt like the story was really building up to anything much. The ease with which the virus spread was very inconsistent. And some of the major characters - good and bad - were killed off in a rather offhand manner.
I didn't go in with massive expectations, but after all the fuss it was a bit underwhelming.

The ease of spreading the contagion is where it most closely resembles the original.

After making a couple of generic WWE wrestler vehicles, the Soska sisters finally made something that feels like their work again. This was my favourite film of the festival, even though it's weird and messy, simply because it feels like the most personal film despite being a remake. I like the way it shoots off in odd directions, prioritises striking and imagery over narrative, and fetishises Cronenberg's oeuvre. It makes the film feel like a nightmare after having watched too many Cronenberg films. It was most interesting in its examination of transhumanism, continuing the Soska's American Mary themes of body modification as a personal choice that is comparable to fashion, but can be either constructive or destructive. My main complaint is that the film needed a bigger budget to give the set pieces more impact: the fashion show should have been dwelled on as a beautiful and horrific climax, but it was all over too quickly.

CM Punk in glorified cameo to bring in his fan boys, plus stick his wife in too.

I agree with the lack of impact the climax at the fashion show had, could they not have found a good 70 extras to make it seem less like 10 people sat around a curtain watching people walk. The part in Inbetweeners felt higher budget (maybe it was).

Was a good enough film but speaking as a scientist (and fully aware of the "evils" that could and have happened in its name), given the way the world is going, I wouldn't be running away from lab grown organs and food too much.

Good acting, mind.
