The Devil Dared Me To

Post by AdeBrown »

Yes he did.
There is something much more entertaining in stunts that go wrong. Even bad ones.
Hilarious Kiwi tribute to the great stunt riders. DICK Johansonson brings unwanted protege Randy Campbell into his team, the Te Puke Hellriders. Of course he's jealous of a potential rival.
The bad stunts are slapstick joy, the foul-mouthed dialogue is perfectly in keeping with our antipodean friends and the film is up there with Talledega Nights and (erm) Zoolander in the parody action movie stakes.
Incidentally, it is not true that the only reason this was at Frighfest was because it mentions "Evil Kneivel" ...

Now I overslept again and will miss The Girl Next Door.

PS those two trailers made me wish there was a frightfest four times a year ! I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer (heh heh) might even make me watch cricket.

Hrm. jonbly really wanted to like this one and for a while (the first stunt show) it delivered. But it went off the boil after that and never really recovered. The montage at the end is tragic - it shows how inventive these guys can really be.

Okay for a late night film but defintely did have its moments.

Made me laugh quite a few times so helped to keep me awake.

Hate to say it. This film left me cold. There were some good stunts in the film but other than that. I found any amusing moments few and far between.

I've didn't really enjoy Back of the Y to much during its brief run over in the UK, so I wasn't too hopeful for this, depsite the awesome trailer. After ten minutes I thought I was going to be proved to be wrong, as the intro and initial stunt show were absolutely hilarious - but it just couldn't keep up the pace, and I barely chuckled once for the remaining hour.

I admit, this was one of the films I was most looking forward to seeing, and for me it delivered - was the perfect midnight movie. Vulgar and fun, I loved it and can't wait to see it again. The montage during the closing credits (it's on YouTube if you missed it) was jaw-dropping, I can't believe some of the crazy stunts those guys do for our entertainment...
First things first, stay calm.

One of my favourites of the festival because it was so off the wall, and because the guys from the film (Ant, Chris and Matt) were awesome dudes to chat to...

Let's hope they manage to get Vaseline Warriors (look on youtube for shorts of this) off the ground next...
It's horrible... I love it... What is it?

Great fun movie, perfect for a late-nighter. Daft, slapstick silliness, and so good-natured, with a great intro from the stars.

The guys were really nice, too - signed my programme for my sister's Kiwi boyfriend, who's a huge fan, and even drew a little picture too!

One of my least favourites. Very little of it was funny. Maybe, as has been suggested, it'd play better if you're moderately drunk. But so would Police Academy 2. I just didn't get the appeal of it.

Wanted to enjoy this but sadly didn't find it funny. The worst bit was when someone kindly and unexpectedly introduced me to one of the guys involved and he asked me what I thought. In my drunken state, desperate not to offend, I don't even know babbled

Hopefully I was just too tired and on a second watch i'll spot some funnies.
