Hear hear, series 4 of Lost has been a real return to form - actually taking the plot forward rather than too many over-long flashbacks. Of course, there's still more questions than answers but that's half of the fun...
New TV Eye ready to go - Ian should have it up on the site any day now.
Have talked about Doctor Who a little, but just to add I thought this w/e's episode by The Moff was excellent - he has a real knack for making the mundane seem threatening and I really liked Alex Kingston's character and the future potential there... looking forward to part 2 next Saturday!

Heroes
The shine of this series has quickly dulled.
Theres no interesting story arc and the one it seems to have (the virus) is too similar to last years big explosion
.
Characters seem included in the series more cause they were enjoyed by some he first time round than beacause they still have story potential. Nikki and her moppet kid really needed to be culled- even if i do find Ali Larter to be very easy on the eye.
As for these flaccid Hondurans... omg y cant Sylar just kill them and take their car as frankly their powers are shit.
Sylar himself never needed to return, at least not so soon. Clearly they intended to bring in some ultra bad guy with Mollys nightmare man, but what on earth were they thinking by making it some old crinkly tubby. It also annoyingly increased the amount of screen time mr pudgy mind reader gets, this is not good.
Plus i find his and Mohinders constant pawing and fawning over Molly to be slightly creepy and disturbing.
Killing of George Takei was a bad idea and Bob from the Company is less interesting than Linderman.
The Hiro in japan guff also was a mistake as its introduced a really rubbish british accent and a boring to look at actor. Although the twist to the takeshi storyline was mostly obvious some of it was quite good (takeshi turning bad).
And those awful Irish characters and accents are borderline offensive.
I can only hope Nathan Patrelli remains in the show, then slaps Peter enough times that he stops being such a mopey whinge bag and then the show can have two strong central characters to spark off.

so there we have the conclusion of Heroes.
Part of me has enjoyed these truncated seasons of things. Its tighter and less padded.
However of them all Heroes still felt a little bloated. Maya might be fit as anything but her storyline was bone. Sylar bores me still.
Was good for Hiro to have a dramatic story but he suffers without Ando.
Nathan Petrelli still needs to slap some sense into Peter- but thats not looking likely to happen now.
i dont think this series will really last much longer.
Still Dr Who has really picked up towards the end and Dexter is back on sunday. With Jamie Murray...swoon.

The new series of Dexter is awesome so far, I am up to ep4 due to illegal ventures (and me not having an aerial), it is brillsville.ghouldrool wrote:Dexter is back on sunday. With Jamie Murray...swoon.
The writers are competant enough to keep going without Lindsay's book as a guide, which is rare for the US.
Series 3 is looking like it will start airing in the US around September.
What I want to know when will I get more Entourage!!!

Apart from Ari, it has to be Johnny Drama, that bit in the last series with the rabbit costume nearly ended me. Also Billy Walsh is a great character, I would love to know which director he's based on. Having read the Peter Biskind book Down and Dirty Pictures about the US indie film scene I think it's Nick Gomez with a bit of Tarantino thrown in there.dangerous_jamie wrote:Do you have a favourite?
What's been you're favorite celebrity appearence? The obvious one to go for is Gary Busey, but personally I thought James Woods was absolutely priceless. I'm hoping for a Christopher Walken cameo as some point.
Can I make a plea, please, for warnings about spoilers, namely stuff going on in S4 of Lost...I don't have a TV so have to wait for it to come out to rent/buy and really don't want to find out loads of plot twists beforehand...ta
Have really enjoyed watching The Inbetweeners on the C4 On Demand site - very funny, perfect length for when you want to watch something but don't want to sit through a film or even a longer series (an awful lot of shows seem to be an hour long now).
I've been watching loads of the free Derren Brown programmes that you can download on C4OD - am totally hooked!

If you cut off my head, what would I say... Me and my head, or me and my body? What right has my head to call itself me?

* SPOILERS - If you haven't seen the finale of Doctor Who *
Hmmmm... a great build up, for sure, I don't ever remember a cliffhanger that had everyone debating so much what could happen next... but to solve it in such a way within about five seconds was a massive anti-climax. Although seriously, did anyone think Tennant was going to regenerate?
It had good bits (Davros was by far the best villain they've exhumed, and Bernard Cribbens was superb) and bad bits, but I was just disappointed that RTD didn't have the guts to follow through and kill off one of the companions... simply erasing Donna's mind wasn't enough for me.
I shall discuss further in my next TV Eye!

I was under the impression that Billy Walsh was based on David O. Russell, director of I <3 Huckabees and Three Kings (which exec producer and storyline inspirationist, Mark Wahlberg, starred in).MaxRenn wrote:Also Billy Walsh is a great character, I would love to know which director he's based on.
I must admit that I love most of the cameos, particularly Peter Dinklage and Pauly Shore. I also love Maury Chaykin as Harvey Weingard.
A Walken cameo would be amazing!!

On the subject of current TV, did anyone else start watching Bonekickers last night? I usually give these things a week at least - sometimes I last the course, sometimes I give up after a couple of episodes. This time I walked out after about 25 minutes. The breaking point came when some evil boo-hiss Christians started with the religious ranting at some peace-and-love Muslims - not offensive and unpleasant in itself but I couldn't stomach the heavy-handed way such a banal statement of The Bleedin' Obvious was hammered home as the Author's Message; in fact it couldn't have been less obvious if the entire cast had been wearing T-shirts and carrying placards emblazoned with "Islam Is A Peaceful Faith". Well, d'uh. Next week, just from the Radio Times description, it's "Black Men Can Be Presidents Too" and "Slavery Is Bad". What's next in the Big Book Of Staggeringly True Things? "Drinking Sewage Is Bad For You"? "You Cannot Open Beer Bottles With Your Knob"? A pity, because had it stuck to riffing on Indiana Jones and National Treasure with some witty one-liners it could have been fun, rather than pontificating and wagging fingers.

Bonekickers... you should have stuck with it, it was the funniest hour of television I've seen in a very long time. You missed the whole 'swinging on a rope' scene where a fella with a four ft long sword *still* couldn't manage to hit the female archaelogist as they swung past one another... hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
