I picked up the Booray version of The French Connection yesterday, and I'm actually pretty disapointed by the level of b*ggering around that Mr Friedkin has done - no stupid re-cutting, but he's made the film look like a cr*ppy bootleg. (he's oversaturated the colours, then applied it to a b/w print, in an attempt to make the film look like Moby Dick.)

Oh and Doris Picked up Wall-e, which was almost a little too saccharin for me.

I'm the same, if I see something I want or there is a bargain to be had I just buy it anyway. There is no rush to watch it but there are times like at the moment I am off work (after trapping my hand in a taxi door) that I can work through my film collection.

This week I have got through 4 Friday the 13ths (1-4), Funny Games and Broken.

On the way:
Starship Troopers oddly, don't have this on dvd, and allegedly the Booray transfer is superb
and
Evil Dead II on Booray - at £9.99, I couldn't resist.

Also re-pre-ordered (due to once decent company being a little bit rubbish of late)

Midnight Meat Train
Akira - on Booray
Four Flies on grey velvet
Let the Right One In - super special fancy cover booray edition.

oh, and HMV posted Eden Lake out yesterday, which I'm really looking forward to watching again.

Magnet have got it in the US, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a dvd of it for pre-order. Looks to be out in the US on the 10th of march.

Eden Lake Turned up today, looks like a great transfer, but loses brownie points as there are not only forced trailers, but an advert for f*cking Snickers!

Optimum, take note - feel free to bung trailers on your dvd's, but please, make them optional and in keeping with the title. Adverts for popular peanut based confectionary items are not something I need to have rammed down my throat when I settle down to watch a dvd that i've gone out and bought. Even if they do star Mr. T.

my review of the eden lake blu ray will appear on the site in a day or so

the BR has no forced trailers.. i agree they ARE very annoying when you can't skip them - i find the forward button always helps. disney are/were another prime offender. the other annoying non-skipable advert is the anti piracy one, which i always think is a bit of a pain - especially as we're the ones who have bought the dvd in the first place.
