I have just heard the very sad news that true punk icon Poly Styrene has died at the age of 53 following a short battle with cancer.

Singer and songwriter Poly Styrene (aka. Marianne Elliot-Said) fronted X-Ray Spex and her fearless, confrontational vocals and genuinely poetic lyrics secured the truly unique band a place in history among the very most important and influential punk bands to come out of 1970s Britain.

I'll be digging out Germfree Adolescents, their only album, to listen to all their classic tracks; Warrior in Woolworths, My Mind is a Plastic Bag, I am a Poseur, and my personal favourite, Identity.

RIP Poly.

sad news indeed MrBill
You're scared of mice and spiders, but oh-so-much greater is your fear that one day the two species will cross-breed to form an all-powerful race of mice-spiders, who will immobilize human beings in giant webs in order to steal cheese.

A mixture of Nine Inch Nails, Carcass, Deftones and Arcade Fire. With added random songs from the Portal 2 soundtrack.

I'm going through a massive 90's revival phase at the moment, listening to old cassettes on a fifteen year old walkman.

Can't stop listening to Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine working through the albums
101 Damnations
30 Something
Post Historic Monsters

and most of all 1992 The Love Album

Lots of politically pun-tastic wordplay and greebo bitterness hidden behind electro-punk-pop energy.
I miss the nineties.

Any thoughts on the new Misfits album? I've personally avoided the live gigs of this lineup like the plague, and clips I've seen on youtube with Jerry Only on vocals were absolutely atrocious, but after one spin this sounds quite all right. No it's nothing like Danzig era Misfits, and it's not another American Psycho either (and yes I do love this album and think mr. Graves is a great singer), but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
