Argento Film

Post by Reanimator »

What does everything think will be the film playing after the Dario Argento interview. Anyone have a clue or any suggestions. My guess is it will be Suspiria or Opera!!!

Hopefully bird, four flies or inferno. I'm guessing it might be something early (if so then hopefully bird). Although suspiria and deep red are amazing they get quite a lot of play around the place so I'd rather see something that doesn't make it to big screen as much. I really hope it's not opera, it is not one of argento's best.

I'm hoping we do get to find out before the festival - I'm planning on doing a mini retrospective of Argento beforehand but I dont want to watch a film on DVD that I will then get to see on the big screen a few days later.

Was fortunate enough to have a quick chat with one of the guys (not saying who) during the queuing.

Not sure if this is supposed to be a secret or not ...
*looks around furtively*

Apparently this is still "up in the air" as it were...
Allegedly they are trying to get Dracula 3D and if they sort out the usual film company shenanigans, then it will be the Argento film after the interview.

If they don't, then it will be another in his extensive roster.

I've got to be honest, and say that (after Cannes and other reviews ... and Giallo for that matter!) I would much rather see Suspiria or Deep Red on the big screen.
Imagine the Goblin soundtrack on the Empire sound system. Mmmm...

This would make sense, Wulfster. I thought it was going to be Dracula 3D when I heard Alan Jones was going to be promoting his Argento book. Didn't realise it would still be up in the air, though!

People don't seem to be up for this film, mind. I am: it looks like it has a manic Hammer vibe which could be fun.

I'd be happy with one of the older ones though; I've never seen any Argento films in the big screen, and, like you say, the soundtrack would be incredible.

I hope they do say what it is: I worry that there could be a palpable air of disappointment if it turns out to be something people don't want!

It does say "....one of the master's classic films" so I'd guess it would be Suspiria or Crystal Plumage, which I think probably fit the word "classic" best. Much as I love Tenebrae and Opera (my two favourite DA films) I'd be surprised if it was either of those, and Deep Red was shown at an earlier FF (back at the Prince Charles, probably when The Card Player came out).

If it does turn out to be Dracula after all, though - I'm THERE.

Perhaps, after viewing it in Cannes, the FrightFest lads have decided that Dracula is 'one of the master's classic films'!

I think its gonna be Inferno since that is Alan Jones number 1 Argento film. FrightFest has in the past shown Deep Red.

It doesn't seem so, Manoid.

Inferno would be nice, actually.

I don't know how I'm going to manage the next two months of anticipation.............. :?

thay cant show "Dracula" cause they cant risk the same juvenile - giggly geek -hysteria breaking out again as it did during "Giallo" and thus utterly disrespecting the great man.
personally i love "The stendhal syndrome".

I need to rewatch Sleepless (Non Ho Sonno) but I think the last Dario movies that was any good was The Stendhal Syndrome.

Actually I have a soft spot for DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK - it's light and amiable although it really feels more like DO YOU LIKE DE PALMA? - and for PHENOMENA but I admit it's a bit all over the place. THE STENDHAL SYNDROME bothered me enormously and I haven't seen it since the NFT premiered it.

But GIALLO was, sadly, awful. I blogged at length about it just after we'd seen it: http://www.frightfest.co.uk/rrt4thseptember0.html
