FrightFest August

Post by iomega » Sun Mar 22, 2020 3:40 pm

Coronavirus and the Arrow Video FrightFest event in August.

Some of you have been in touch asking whether FrightFest will be going ahead in August. The short answer, currently, is ‘we don’t know’ but we’ll be making an announcement early June, where we hope to provide concrete confirmation of our plans.

Ian.

Makes a change of speculating what films will be on to whether the festival itself will occur.

August seems so far away but looking at events at the start of August; Brighton Pride is still going ahead, but the Great British Beer Festival, which was due to be held at Olympia, is cancelled.

At least typing this took 2 minutes out of the day.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

OK, so they've now cancelled Brighton Pride.

I had this weird dream last night in which Frightfest was told by the powers that be that it could go ahead this year as long as the organisers applied social distancing. So there had to be an empty seat in-between each person. I woke up in a cold sweat thinking about the moment the tickets went on sale online, the usual heart in mouth experience of trying to get seats ramped up to 11 as all those little red dots disappeared in a flash before my eyes.

To paraphrase a famous tagline... "To avoid fainting keep repeating... it's only a dream... it's only a dream... it's only a dream..."

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

Prepare yourself for the possibility. Nothing is decided yet, but the way things are going it seems unlikely anything will be back to what we consider normal by August. :(

Notting Hill Carnival cancelled...

Though being perfectly honest, if the pubs aren't open by August (which I expect they won't be) then there is even less need to come to London.

Thank heavens I went to Glasgow for my Frightfest fix.

Reading/Leeds Festival cancelled.

Would FrightFest be the same with half or even a third or quarter of the people in the same auditorium because of social distancing?

Due to the continuing COVID-19 restrictions and the recommended social distancing rules currently in place in the UK, the Arrow FrightFest’s traditional five-day event in August has been rescheduled to the end of October 2020.

The need to keep FrightFesters and filmmakers safe in these unprecedented times plus the atmosphere reducing capacity restrictions in cinemas once they reopen has been the main driving force behind the decision. Details are still being finalised, but the plan is to extend the traditional FrightFest Halloween one day event to multiple days.

Details on dates, venues, films and ticketing for the Halloween event will be made available in due course

Unsurprising but still a shame.

Maybe a work around it to simply say you're holding a protest, clearly on one gives a crap about guidelines and public health in that instance.
