Splinter

by Hello Doris!
The best film of the weekend for me. Old school horror - what you see is what you get. Made me jump a few times and do swears - which is always a good sign.
The only downside is I really wanted the boyfriend (teeny tiny glasses man) to be picked off. Even though he "stepped up" right at the end, I would still have liked to see him picked off by one of the cut off hands.

Will be picking it up when I can find a copy.

This might have been my best of the weekend, but unfortunately I nodded off for the last 10 minutes, so I can't really judge it fully, so Hush gets the best of the weekend for me.

I saw most of it though and it was great - pretty much the whole film was at that convience store, but that just added to it and made it more claustrophobic and intense. Only 4 real characters in the film, but they were good - liked the way the specy guy was geeky but at the same time not totally useless, and that the criminal guy was nasty, but still had a good side. Nice mix of styles - one minute creepy scene with thorns growing out of people, and the next some mad moment with people being chased around by a severed hand!

Gotta get this when it comes out so I can see the whole thing.

"arrrghhh there's a man....with spikes", loved that bit!

I enjoyed this but think it ran out of steam towards the end. The severed hand was a great touch and did make me chuckle.

I liked the speccy boyfriend! But then I've got a soft spot for nerdy academic types.

this was good, didn't do anything new for me, severed hand was good, rattled with cliches...

oh momma, we have a winner. Or was that Hush or Gnaw? I still can't decide. Anyway, this film really rocks! Though gotta say, regarding my earlier point, very hard for moi to judge what was 'best film' of the night especially because watching one after another gets a bit relentless. anyone else agree?

I loved this! Great fun.

Does anyone know/would anyone like to venture a guess about how they did the FX for this? I loved the stop motion feel of the splintered people, they way they moved was very unpleasant and it worked really well.

Defo should have been last film. Small cast, great acting and a villain whos actually believable... reminded me abit of Rollins... anyway good old school horror. Film of the night for me.

Don't get me wrong, it's no Inside... The last film needs to grab you by the special bits as you're brains just about to seep out of your ears and match sticks are propping open your eye lids... :D

Inside, got you in the first five minutes.... with that 'scene in the belly'.... Splinter, although having low expectations... got cha from the moment they went for petrol... :D

Pig Hunt.... well it just kinda trolled along in a mild entertaining fashion with no real feeling of peril... :) Splinter gave you peril and believable outcomes :)
