Black Site

Post by Whiptail »

I really wanted to like this film. I really did.

I love cosmic horror, and you cant get any more cosmic than the elder gods.

However, despite the big tentacled horror that flashed up in dream sequences, the gods were sadly absent. Where ever they went, they seemed to have taken some serious bits of plot and the acting ability of the cast (apart from the main antagonist) with them.

Black site was heavy on giving us exposition for the reason why the site was deporting elder gods, but failed to address why there isnt a deportation officer on site at all times, why they didnt have magical weapons despite obviously having access to magic, why no one had thought of using better weapons than shock batons (seriously, no one had a crossbow?) and why the antagonist needed the protagonist alive in the first place.

I felt that the writer had ideas for what he wanted and shoehorned them in. Did Kerr really need to be a one-eyed kickass ninja who duel weilded kitanas other than the fact the writer thought it was cool?

The acting of the main antagonist was great, but that is the only saving grace for this film.
