MLET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Blu Ray Momentum Pictures Available now.
The modern vampire masterpiece arrives on Blu Ray disc with thankfully newly corrected subtitles, the US release of the title included incorrect “dumbed down” text which were markedly different from the films original release version.
The stunning cinematography for LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is perfectly and adroitly captured on the BR transfer making each striking frame of the film look so beautiful and exquisite.
The disc features a thoughtful double handed commentary by director Tomas Alfredson and original author John Avide Lindqvist, a brief photo gallery, the UK theatrical trailer and four deleted scenes. The scenes each run for around a minute but are unexceptional but a nice addition nonetheless.
LTROI will come to be regarded as a classic in years to come and will hopefully remain un-tainted by the currently in the works remake. This is an essential genre purchase of an unforgettable film.
LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS. Blu Ray Momentum Pictures Available now.
Phil Claydon’s much maligned movie suffered on its release from the over exposure of the films two male leads comedians James Corden and Matthew Horne. With a few months of breathing space LVK can now be watched and enjoyed for the fast paced and fun pleasure that it is.
The BR transfer stunningly captures Claydon’s comic book and Hammer pastiche style perfectly.
The extras on the disc while seemingly are plentiful, most are slight and non informative. From the 11 minute making of to the various brief webisodes and swear reels I’m guessing that in keeping with the tone of the film the aim was to make these features quick and light.
To balance the lack of substance however the director’s commentary is excellent and full of insightful and anecdotal details covering many aspects of the films production.
The only other slight criticism of the release is the incredibly difficult (and slow) to navigate menu screen, with only slight variations to acknowledge when you are clicking on specific options.
