The keeper of all things that taste forgot, Nicola Clements will be blogging about anything & everything from T-shirts to bags to music soundtracks, books, novelties, film posters & banners and throwing in her own thoughts along the way.

28th July 2008.

Hello & welcome back to another chapter of my junk blog.

There has been so much going on lately, last weekend the 19th & 20th of July was the London comic con, I was hoping to go as I have never been to one of those, but I didn’t make it, but I ended up in Lincoln at the Odeon as I knew they had a charity poster sale. Where I picked up some great posters and for a good cause too, so I hope mike and the poster sale folks at Lincoln Odeon did well and raised a huge amount for charity.

I have been travelling all over lately picking up items, & have amounted so much that I have had to find a unit for all my movie stuff, I just had no room at home, so Monday was a big day moving car loads of items into my unit where I can hang them and have that room to appreciate them more.

You can see some of the posters I found on the posters thread on the forum

I just find myself finding stuff, take my fascination with, laserdiscs, I am quite a retro gaming enthusiast and like anything it leads to another area, the LD format during the 90s I always wanted one, mostly due to ads in Empire and a few cool demos in showrooms but I never bought one until a few months ago, it plays well & looks great on a modern TV, yet the discs can be as cheap as chips, and when you consider how fast technology is moving its not a bad thing to step back and pick up something that you wanted in the 90s for next to nothing.

As with retro gaming its not just about the games as you could have an emulator programme, but it’s the feel of the joy pad and having that machine, if anybody has ever played konami’s Zombies aka Zombies ate my neighbours.

It is one of the most cherished games on that format and a one off, its had its sequel ghoul patrol and even a few new additions to that style of game, but the original has never been equalled & the Snes still has its charm and some of the most playable games ever made on that machine.

Laserdiscs that DVD soon made obsolete but it’s the look of the discs and the packaging on some of them that hold my attraction and that huge amount of nostalgia, which keeps film fairs, Collector mania events & Comic Cons in business.

Even HD DVD is now over and done with yet those discs are so cheap on some online stores.

So what’s been fun that I picked up lately?

A couple of Daywatch banners look awesome hanging up, but I’m most looking forward to is the Hellboy 2 set of banners, the artwork on those is just luscious, I would hold out a little bit of hope for The Dark Knight set as well.

I picked up a T-shirt of Teeth and a few bottle openers with teeth engraved into them, a hills have eyes squishy eyeball stress ball & key ring, all fun things if you like It.

Till next time…

Nicola.
