Hello & welcome readers new & old to the all new junk column and remember the names and dates have been changed to protect the guilty. It Look’s like this years FF is going to be bigger than ever, packed full of treats galore for new members and old to ff. When ever I go to a cinema I always ask about film promo items, well being a collector its can pay off or it doesn’t, but sometimes the excuses well kind of irk ,me as to why they don’t give items out, so lets break them down.
Reason 1:- Ebay we all use it for something or another so for that reason, its not unusual to find items on there way ahead of a films release, but when I got told “we don’t give items out as members of the public could sell them”, how does that differ from an employee of the cinema doing the same thing?
Reason 2:- All items are sent back to the distributor? Well this is fact in some cases, say take the Simpson’s characters, yes they did send a van round for them, but banners & standees posters, they aren’t really going to bother with them so it in the bin or stored in the cinema.
Reason 3:- We give them to hospitals or schools or colleges! Which really means we don’t give them to anyone and especially you! But hold it there with that thought what if they did indeed send them to the NHS to jazz up wards imagine how that could work. Wards could be themed by movies.
A burns unit could be adorned with posters from Back draft, or Ladder 49. A maternity ward could have l’interior posters or It’s Alive. Gynaecological units could have posters from Teeth. A&E wards could have Crash posters that would go down well.
I'm sure the NHS would benefit from these posters, Blood donor vans could have 30 days of night posters. But Lets not limit ourselves to the NHS maybe cinema chains could send posters to prisons, Guantanamo bay & Abu Ghraib would greatly benefit from posters of hostel. Charities could receive parcels of items for refugee camps; imagine the joy as they receive not food but rolls of posters.
But the most bizarre thing I heard from the mouth of a manager, was we don’t give them out as they will end up on Ebay and I can tell who’s a genuine collector or someone out to sell, well how does that work, is he psychic, does he have the mind of a computer linked to databases? No of course he doesn’t so that holds no water, in the end I will keep asking and hearing more bizarre excuses no doubt.
