Episode 5 the cotton connection!
Welcome back readers to my next instalment of horror junk. If there’s one thing horror fans are never without it has to be a S.O.H, but following hot on the heels of that it has to be the humble T-shirt. Yes never has so much been worn as a badge of pride when it comes to films as T-shirts.
Going back, way back to the eighties being a student, there was a small indie/alternative store in Lincoln, which did a number of T-shirts. My 1st being a return of the living dead T-shirt, which had the same picture as the UK tartan laserdisc cover as that’s the only image I could find of it, Following that I had these novelty T-shirts where a rubber axe was impaled into a bloody white shirt, or an alien was burrowing itself out of the front of the shirt in all its bloody gruesome glory, much to the disgust of friends or parents. I wouldn’t mind those T-shirts again.
But what’s got me on the T-shirt vibe was a Hills Have Eyes goody bag in 2006; with 2 T-shirts, a cap and a bag.
But I have been searching all over for Grindhouse T-shirts and finally I found some @ "http://www.forbiddenplanetinternational.co.uk"
Planet Terror, Death Proof & Grindhouse double bill designs all now within my grasp to wear proudly.
If you haven’t seen rotten cottons website then have a look -you don’t know what you’re missing! One of the most outrageous sites on the web for T-shirts. You might have caught the guys from FAB press selling a selection on their stall at the Frightfest D-day. "http://www.rottencotton.com/index2.htm"
Then I found "http://www.lastexittonowhere.com" where fictional brand names from films are used and look fab. A slaughtered lamb T-shirt or a USS Sulaco colonial marines T-shirt will do nicely for me.
I’m often looking on Ebay for T-shirts and you can find some great shirts, though I do try and make sure they are official items. Cloverfield, Friday the 13th, 28 Weeks Later; all ready to come out during the festival
Whatever happens you can bet that horror fans are the proudest wearers of their favourite films for all to see.
So if you’re sat next to me at the fest in your best rotten cotton or a retro film tee, or sporting a superhero, you’re in good company. If you’re sat next to me and you’re wearing somebody else’s skin, maybe you’re taking things a bit too far!
