The premiere event of the year for horror fans - Time Out

PostcardsfromAustin

1st October - That's it for another year as Fantastic Fest comes to a close. Yesterday was a bit of a kick back day, and of course I had all that malarkey of getting the newsletter out and the web site up to date for the all nighter. I also spent some time with my Dad, who has been with me here in Austin for a bit of a break.

I only saw one film yesterday, which was the final surprise film. It turned out to be Universal Soldier: A New Beginning. You know what, this is not the best film in the world, however the event was glammed up with personal appearances by the director John Hyam, stars Andrie Arlovski and Dolph Lundgren. Dolph was looking fit and well.

The festival then wrapped up with the Vampire Dance Party at the Highball club where Paul and I were comprehensively trashed at bowling by the Human Centipede gang.

What will I take away from fantastic Fest this year? Well, my favourite film just has to be Zombieland. I read that Paul thought it was flawed, but I have no idea where he got that from. It was just so much fun to watch. A great piece of entertainment. You know, sometimes people overanalyse things when you should just sit back and enjoy. Other favourites include Down Terrace, Yesterday and Sweet Karma. Another thing I will take away from Frantastic Fest and Austin is the friendliness of people in general. Everybody says hello to you often when you're just walking down the street. It was also fab to catch up with loads of old friends including Scott Weinberg and Joey Bubba's Chilly Parlour Evans, who journeyed not once but twice from Dallas to spend some time at the event. By the way, he has a new film in the works called Paranormal, so you never know it may turn up at FrightFest. Thanks also goes to Mike for contributing a postcard. Iit was a pleasure to spend some time with you and Kim, which reminds me, shameless plug time, as Kim put the FrightFest Calendar together. It is still on sale through the web site. It will make an excellent Christmas gift for somebody you love.

That's that then, I hope you've enjoyed reading this latest batch of Post Cards from Austin. It's time to pack and head for the airport. I will see you all on the 31st back in London for the all nighter ,when I look forward to catching up with you all.

Until the next time...

Ian.
