The premiere event of the year for horror fans - Time Out

Well, it's all starting to wind down again for another year. The festival PR machine has been working overtime trying to convince everyone that attendances have been on a par with previous years - but this is a blatant lie as, although the same amount of folks have come out - they have done so for far shorter time periods. As per usual some of the much hyped mega titles have failed to live up to advance publicity and expectations, but that's par for the Cannes course. This year has been another good one for us, with lots of meetings, a huge stack of screening discs and great catch ups with old friends. The hotter than hot ticket was Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTERDS – which screened this morning. Through feverish constant internet work I managed to sort out 3 tickets for us - including 1 for that ungrateful basterd Rattray. The film lived up to expectations with some truly jaw dropping sequences. Much of that is to do with the canny use of some fabulous Morricone music and my favourite 5-minute sequence which utilizes Moroder/Bowie's CAT PEOPLE theme to extraordinary hairs on back of the neck effect. It is a tad bloated at times, and apparently the cut screened here is his 1st version so MAY get slightly trimmed back for its eventual theatrical release. Overall a great slice of cinema. Still more stuff to come.. the delayed HIERRO screening and a few parties are in the offing. This year the weather has remained mostly fabulous (unlike last years dismal downpour mood damperners) so not too much to moan about - thank goodness! We also popped in to 2 sales offices and watched some footage from an as yet under the radar Giallo film project which looks verry interesting along with the new film from Adam and Jace (AUTOPSY) called NIGHT OF THE DEMONS which features a fabulous female cast including Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena and Diora Baird - the scenes we saw included some nice demon sex to whet our collective appetites of course! Until the next time... Paul. |
