We're under starters orders and we’re off Hello and welcome to another set of FrightFest Post Cards from for the moment a sunny, hot and humid Toronto. Just a quick note to get the ball rolling on this year's Post Cards from Canada and the Toronto International Film Festival. (TIFF)

Paul and I are looking forward to reporting back on all the goings-on from here. Phil (soulmining) Newton will also be joining in. He’s here to report back for his podcast, Chris and Phil Presents. By the way, if you haven't downloaded one of their podcasts, you should. They are interesting and very good fun and often contain some laugh out loud moments.

Last night Paul, Phil and I attended Colin (Midnight Madness) Geddes's unofficial festival opening drinks, where we caught up with all our TIFF friends. It was a nice relaxed way to limber up for the excesses to come. It was held in a quiet, or quiet until we turned up bar, located in the west side of town. It’s interesting; I meet these people once or twice a year at various film festivals around the world. Our conversations resume like we had just been talking yesterday. You just take up where you left off the last time that you had seen each other. We ran into Norman Twain. Some of you may remember him from last year’s FrightFest. He is the producer of Scar 3D. His new film My Dog Tulip is playing in the festival. To say it is completely different from Scar is an understatement. It was a very pleasant wat to kick off the festival. A few glasses of red wine and an oppertunity to catch up with some old friends.

I’m looking forward to Midnight Madness this year. The lineup looks very strong. I can’t wait to see "REC 2"," Daybreakers", "George Romero’s Survival of the Dead" and tonight's opener "Jennifer's Body" with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried to name just a few.

One of Colin's selections this year, is a little bit unusual. It's a film called "A Town Called Panic". The film started off life as a Belgian television animation and it was the first-stop motion animated feature film ever to be selected for Cannes. It brings to life a topsy-turvy world populated by cheap plastic figurines of cowboys, Indians and farmers etc.. It will be interesting to see how it plays and see if it can sustain itself in a full feature film. It's almost like our selection this year of "I Think We're Alone Now". Something you wouldn't really expect to see in a genre festival, but very enjoyable nonetheless. We'll see.

Look out for our first proper postcard from Toronto tomorrow. Paul will be reporting back on all the happenings on day one including his thoughts on Jennifer's Body.

Until the next time…..

Ian.
