GarethMariaDirected by Mickey Liddell. Starring Chase Crawford, Haley Bennett, Anna Lynne McCord, Shannon Woodward and Jake Weber. Running time 85 mins, USA, Supernatural high school/teen horror.

Molly Hartley is a seventeen year old girl who has been psychologically affected by her mother trying to kill her. Although at first there seems to be no clear motive, as Molly approaches her 18th birthday things are shown to be not what they seem and nobody is to be trusted.

Molly enrolls at a new school and tries to cope with the fear that her mum may escape from a mental hospital and once more try to kill her as well the usual pressures of school life. Molly soon becomes attracted to the high school hunk Joseph (Chase Crawford) who has also taken a liking to her. This doesn’t impress the school bitch, Suzie, one bit. However, she discovers Molly is not to be messed with and when Suzie starts a fight at Joseph’s party, Molly shows her 'what for' in true Hollywood style and with a slight twist of the arm Suzie goes down, yawn yawn! Eventually Molly’s mum comes back (in Michael Myers style.....no not really) to kill her but instead falls to her own death. Molly learns that she is different because of a deal her parents made on the day she was born in order to save her life. In doing so Molly becomes the property of someone else and a new, more sinister, destiny awaits her. Molly’s feeble attempt to kill herself to stop the evil from taking hold is, oops, a bit too late and now we have super cool evil Molly.

There is high school horror and then there is this. The Haunting of Molly Hartley is not going to make you jump other than with the embarrassment of being caught watching it. This is the sort of film that has got on the bandwagon of the teen horror like the Twilight series but at least what they did was successful and has vampires. The Haunting of Molly Hartley has no demons or in fact no ghost of any kind and so the title really has no relevance to the plot other than it being a 'hauntingly' bad film. Even if you are a lover of teen horror we would suggest steering clear of this one!!
