Re: Curse of Chucky

I've seen, and quite liked, the first, second and fourth entries in the Child's Play franchise. This is probably the weakest of the Child's Play films I've seen, largely due to recycling the standard Child's Play plot of the first two entries (the Chucky doll arrives at a house, a family is introduc...

Re: You're Next

Easily the best of the first day. A strong thriller with an excellent performance from Sharni Vinson at its centre. It takes a while to get going, as the setup drags on too long, but once events start happening the film keeps building to a climax. Its strength was in largely keeping events realistic...

Re: The Dead 2: India

As the original "The Dead" suffered from a lack of originality, I'd hoped that this sequel might try to put a new spin on an overworked genre, but instead the directors redo almost exactly the same film as the first one except a little bit worse. Again there's a white guy in a developing c...

Re: 3D Films for Frightfest 2013

I will not soon forget the 3D in Paura last year because for the first half hour my eyes were constantly trying to adjust to the subtitles. Normally I have no trouble viewing 3D or reading subtitles, but I'd never seen a non-English-language 3D film, and whenever the subtitles appeared, apparently f...

Re: PDF Timetable

Couple more changes to the itinerary: The film on Discovery Screen 1 on Friday at 13:00 seems to have been changed from "Bring me the head of Machine Gun Woman" to "Daylight" (which is annoying, because that was the only film I wanted to see at that time), and on Monday, "On...

Re: What does everyone think of the line up then?

In general very pleased with the lineup (Friday and Monday seem to have very good lineups, with only Sunday looking weak), and the Discovery Screen is so strong that there always seems to be something better for films I'm not keen on seeing on the Main Screen. In particular, I'm planning to watch &q...

Re: Films for Frightfest August 2013

The Fantasia festival has announced its first batch of films: http://www.indiewire.com/article/fantasia-sets-first-wave-of-titles-the-conjuring-the-worlds-end-to-bookend-fest?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed which might suggest some that Frightfest could play. Across the River (atmospheric ...

Re: Films for Frightfest August 2013

I don't think anybody has mentioned it yet, and it's borderline as to whether it's horror, but I really want All is Lost to play. It got a great reception at Cannes, and if Open Water 2 could play Frightfest, then this should certainly be in the running. It also fits with the idea of variety. I'd al...

Re: Was FF 13 any worse or better than other years?

This was a very good year, and a much better line up than we had for 2010 and 2011. People tend to forget the poorer films of previous years as time goes by and remember things with rose-coloured glasses. The amount of rape and sexualised violence coloured the festival for a lot of people and I thin...

Re: FF13 - Highlights

First time I've gone for the whole weekend and I loved it. My highlights were: Cockneys vs Zombies (particulary for the audience reaction). The Claycat version of "The Raid". Dario's challenge to the hack who's remaking Suspiria "You think you can do better? Try." The French lady...

Re: Was FF 13 any worse or better than other years?

I think you only have to look at the lineups of previous years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_FrightFest_Film_Festival) to see that this years line-up was one of the better ones, though probably nowhere near the best. I think it could quite well slot into the top 5, and a lot is going to depen...
