Surprise film: Lesbian Vampire Killers

Post by kimblebee »

Ok, so maybe it wasn't much of a surprise, but I loved the fact that Ian, Paul, and Alan carried it as one until the very last moment! :D As a big 'Gavin and Stacey' fan I was very excited to see the boys in this one! Matt and James's characters didn't stray too far from the Gavin and Smithy we all know and love, which was a relief, and there were enough giggles throughout to make it a success! While perhaps not in the same league as 'Shaun of the Dead', it was an original idea that was wittily written, with a great cast, and direction that made it feel like a live action Scooby Doo (meant as a compliment!) :D It was great to have most of the cast for the Q&A afterwards too, much to the delight of the male members of the audience, I'm sure! All in all, an enjoyable film that I will no doubt be coersing my fellow G&S fans to see when it opens!

Brilliant. Loved it.

Got the right blend of horror and comedy, was good fun and can't wait till it gets a full release as I would definitly want to watch it again

Indeed. It's great fun. I did think this was Film Of The Day overall - just ahead of Not Quite Hollywood. Yes, it's probably not in Shaun's league, but (having seen it again a couple of weeks ago) it's at least as enjoyable as American Werewolf in London. Main characters are fundamentally likeable, plenty of laughs.

Thought this was great fun and laughed out loud quite a few times.

Found the 'yah' girl a bit annoying in the beginning but that's a minor gripe.

I do think without James Corden this would have been a lot less fun. He just has such a natural way of delivering what was a very witty script.

All in all a big thumbs up and will recommend to my non horror pals.

I was expecting the worst, not being a fan of Corden and Horne, but it wasn't bad at all.

Not in any way a "horror movie", but I don't think that's the audience they were going for - unlike Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, who seem to genuinely appreciate the horror genre. But as a comedy, it did the job OK.

Silly fun that I would watch again with a group of friends. Wasn't expecting a lot from it, but it was actually quite amusing. It also passed the 4 laugh minimum for it to be a comedy.

My only gripe with it was Horne and Corden trying a bit too hard to recreate the Frost and Pegg relationship as seen in Shaun of the Dead. It just felt very forced and un-natural.
If only we were amongst friends... or sane persons!

liked this, very much like Shaun of the Dead, in the British-sitcom-meets-horror-film stylee. from the trailer we saw in august I imagined it'd be some silly vampire pron kinda thing, but it turned out to be totally different.

was very funny in places, but in other places the humour just didn't work - i.e. the "this sword's got a handle like a cock" really wasn't funny, and wore really thin after the 5th time the fat bloke had said it. Also the vicar was a bit of a duff character.

it was a fun film overall though, and i'll take the gf to see it when it officially comes out.

Got to say, a bit disappointed with this one.

Sure, it's enjoyable enough, but it felt a bit lacking. Mat and James were ok, albeit playing their usual characters, and the script had nowhere near the heart, witticism or indeed scope of Shaun of the Dead..

Not brilliantly directed (it all felt a bit flat and studio-based - a bit of a waste of the Red camera, and please let's stop using 'speeded up' moments in scenes if there's no point in having them), and under-written in my opinion.

But hey, not a disaster, and I'm sure it'll satisfy the majority of Gavin & Stacey fans and go on and take a healthy box office on it's upcoming theatrical release, but I just felt it was a bit of a wasted opportunity and not really a great 'comedy export' for the UK to the rest of the world..
It's horrible... I love it... What is it?

Not familiar with the main leads comedy duo , and i did think this may not have really been my sort of thing.
Could have just struck me as mainstream cheesy rubbish but i highly enjoyed it and it even had quite a few laughs.
Loved the the way it was shot and a great Q and A afterwards too.

Overall the whole day was an amazing mix of stuff, the best one off FF event yet for me.

Thought the first 45 mins was really dodgy. A mediocre vampire film crossed with a really mediocre sitcom, and both of them worse for the mixture. Once the action got in to gear, though, it was pretty enjoyable with quite a few decent laughs. That said, thought quite a few of the scenes involving the multiple lesbian vampires were pretty much just unironic soft porn, claiming it's a 'homage' to hammer movies isn't really good enough.

Disappointed by this one, for a film called Lesbian Vampire Killers I found it really quite dull. Really annoying performances by all the females... and the males too really. No likable characters and incredibly cheap and repetitive jokes. Also, this felt like a 'let's make another Shaun of the Dead' - esp the sped up intro of the boys at the Winchester (or whatever their pub was called).

"Bummed by a gay werewolf"

Best movie line of the day for me!

I found this a little out of place at Frightfest - would have prefered Dog House!

This did go down well though, and it would have been a film I would have liked to see.

Shame the stars Horne and Cordon couldnt have been this as this was an uber exclusive showing!

Enjoyable romp, even if a little by the numbers.

lol .. you certainly did Zoltan!! In my defence i still think the hint of "ff regulars cast and crew" or words to that effect made it seem more likely to be DogHouse!!

I owe you 2 donuts!!
