Eurocrime

Post by svengalidonut »

I almost gave this a miss, but it turned out to be an excellent documentary on a subject about which I hardly know anything.
So I felt I'd learned a great deal.
I'd never heard of this Maurizio Merli guy.
Some of the stunts in these Italian movies were crazy.
The actor rolling and tumbling downhill in a car.
Live rounds fired at the windscreen a foot to the left of another exposed star.
Great stuff! (apart from the narrator describing Joan Collins as an American!?)

But for a FF audience? Is there not too much italiano this year. Paura. Dario. This documentary. Tulpa.

So an addition to a year where Italian cinema has a strong FF presence

Very good indeed ( if slightly a tad too long) and so glad I made the effort to check it out. Says something when one of the top films (in my opinion) at FrightFest is a documentary about Italian cop films in the 70's !

This was great and anybody who missed this should either kick themselves or grab the DVD as soon as it's out!

I hadn't seen the Belmondo stunt before either and that made my jaw drop.

I particularly liked Henry Silva's reaction to the American film poster of "Cry of a Prostitute"

Nearly gave this a miss to have a lie in and am so glad I didnt.

I knew nothing about this genre before and found it very interesting.

That Belmondo stunt is insane, I cant imagine anyone in their right mind doing that in the modern era.

Best of the day for me and that suprised me.

Very enjoyable, well constructed and entertaining documentary.

A tad overlong but something I will buy as I am a fan of the genre.

Very funny too, especially the guy in the pink (whose name escapes me) with his over inflated opinion of himself and denigration of all others around him.

I believe that guy was Antonio Sabato. However it's hard to confirm that though because a Google images search for him mostly returns images of his son Antonio Sabato Jr.

I've watched several of the films in this genre, but mostly while hungover after big nights out the previous day so never really paid huge attention to them, however that documentary got me interested so if anyone knows of any really good films / box sets of the genre that they can recommend then please post some links, I'm genuinely curious now.

An enjoyable doc, though it could have done with better sound (some of the interviewees were not entirely clear and that's not to do with accents) and less of the animation. Like NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD with Ozsploitation (and definitely not like MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED and Filipino sleaze movies), I came away wanting to go into HMV and overspend on a stack of Italian cop movies. [But I didn't.]
