This! I even caught myself thinking exactly that - 'oh when it gets to daylight, it'll inevitably all be fine'. It really played on that primal fear of the spooky dark, though I do agree with others that it did derail itself a bit (but pulled it back, I thought, overall) when Alan Leech came into it.
