The Unkindness Of Ravens

Post by FranksWildYears »

I loved this. It could so easily have been cringe-makingly amateurish with a load of mates running around the Highlands in silly costumes, yet was involving, inventive, nightmarish and incredibly well done on a microbudget.

The setting was appropriately barren and bleak, the central character was likeable, believable and sympathetic and the flashbacks to his past and the source of his PTSD well-judged and (without posting anything that would spoil it) at times harrowing. Plus there was some dry humour thrown in and despite the giant man-sized ravens it never felt far-fetched or absurd because of it's context - during the Q&A the director explained that they'd worked with ex-service personnel and learned about the mental health problems some experienced, which probably contributed a lot to how respectfully they were portrayed.

One of my favourites all weekend.

Very strange film, most people will probably either love or hate it.
